About me

i am a Substance Addiction profession with 20 years experience working in detoxes, Recovery Homes and other addiction treatment settings. I am familiar with, but not limited to, a 12 Step approach. I am not religious, and prefer to help my clients identify their own concept, or no concept, of a force of the universe. I am accustomed to hearing stories which elicit a lot of stigma and shame. I believe that addiction is a disease, not a choice. I am comfortable working with persons on MAT.

My approach is warm and, where appropriate, humorous, and I am considered very approachable and non-judgement. I support individual solutions to the heartbreak of addiction. I understand the position of family members and friends who have suffered along with the addict, and I can help with appreciating the other persons's point of view. I also have subspecialties in pregnancy loss, infertility, adoption, and parenting.

I look forward to meeting with you and/or your family members to work toward a happy solution.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Johanna McGlame. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

From the start, Johanna was attentive and kind in her approach to therapy. She always listened to my concerns and was willing to pose new ideas and techniques to help me work through my concern in that moment. When I was not ready to speak about something, she wouldn’t pry and would allow us to come back to it later, but she didn’t always take it easy on me either! If something was stopping me from trying an exercise she would push me to give it a try anyway or try to understand what was keeping me from going forward with it. We never had a run-of-the-mill session where she didn’t ask me how I was and what I wanted to talk about. She also wasn’t afraid to speak about her personal life a little bit to make me feel more comfortable sharing so much. Johanna was the first therapist I tried on BetterHelp and was the only one I needed! She really helped me get through this tough time in my life and empowered me to take action and think differently. If you want a friendly face who makes you feel like sitting down with a very wise and attentive friend, I can’t recommend her enough.

I have been seeing Johanna for over a year and I'm not sure where I'd be without her! Even during my lowest points she handles our sessions gracefully and with so much wisdom and real life experience to back her up. I couldn't recommend her more, she is truly a miracle worker!!

Johanna continues to help me through a very difficult time in my life (loneliness, depression, sleep paralysis, relationship issues, feeling demoralised). She is a great listener and gives honest advice. There is no judgement, and she always provides me with a fresh perspective. I’d highly recommend her.
