About me
Are you recovering from recent or past trauma?
Are you struggling to parent during or after divorce?
Are you going through a high-conflict divorce or co-parenting with an abuser?
Are you experiencing post-trauma symptoms such as anxiety, depression, self-blame, or relationship disruptions?
My clients have experienced emotional, physical, or sexual abuse or other traumatic events in childhood or as an adult, are being controlled or abused in their current relationships, or have been the victim of a crime such as domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. I draw from many therapeutic orientations and primarily use a trauma-focused, client-centered, empowerment-based approach.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 11 years of post-graduate experience working with survivors of violence and trauma. I earned my bachelor's degree in Developmental Psychology from Smith College in 2003 and went on to earn my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan in 2005. I am a native of Massachusetts and have lived in Denver for the past 7 years. I am the mother of two happy boys and spend my spare time riding bikes with my family and enjoying all the cultural activities Denver has to offer.
I have a variety of professional experience working with community-based nonprofit organizations and mental health clinics. I strongly orient from an empowerment-based approach. This means that I fully understand and respect my clients' ability to be the expert on their unique situation and make decisions that are best for them. Trauma is not a mental illness- it is the normal response of a person forced into very abnormal circumstances. I view symptoms of trauma as adaptive survival strategies. Healing comes through processing thoughts and memories, building skills for emotional regulation, rebuilding self-trust, and most importantly through connection and awareness.
