I believe in the power of resilience and self-empowerment; however, for those times when that isn't working or a little more is needed, I am here for support. Overall, I have 17-years' experience in nearly every setting ranging from adult and pediatric hospitals to outpatient/community work and school settings. During this time, I have interfaced with a diverse range of patient populations and cultures along with variety of psychiatric and psychological issues and disorders (anxiety, depression, psychosis, substance abuse, sexual issues). While my professional practice has mostly been with acuity and symptomology characterized as moderate to severe, I believe telehealth can be used effectively to address and treat a wide combination of presenting problems and experiences. Please note, I do not accept patients currently in acute crisis or needing daily feedback/support. In those situations, I believe in-person intervention is most appropriate. If you are unsure, I am happy to meet and assess what modality would suit you best and assist in the transition to a different Better Help provider.
My doctorate and primary orientation is Cognitive-Behavioral; I also have a masters in psychodynamic and pull from other evidenced-based practices as well. I am credentialed as a National Health Service Psychologist, so my practice is comprehensive and incorporates more than just thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Currently, I conduct forensic evaluations providing expert opinions to State and Superior Courts on the serious and persistently mentally ill. However, I also have a depth and breadth of experience with children and adolescents with assessment, intervention (individual, family, and group), consultation (to physicians, attorneys, teachers), and supervision of other clinicians . Lastly, I teach, research (empathy, interpersonal skills, patient experience, and medical school curriculum), and consult to businesses.
This modality offers flexibility and different options of communication. The chat window is always there along with the option to use voice chats (through FireFox or Chrome or the mobile/tablet app). I never have your number or contact and everything is done through a secure third party.
The basic gist is:
a) this modality is not for crisis or immediate care/intervention.
b) limits of confidentiality at the same as in person treatment (harm to self, children, elders) or an identified intended victim (only for CA residents)
c) I do not know your subscription, any concerns there are handled through better help customer service (they are responsive, and I'm happy to help)
d) We have the option of text, voice, and video chat- all occur through here. I do not have any contact information of yours, only your first name, age and state of residence.
e) If you feel you need more than one video or voice regularly, I may not be the provider for you. That's ok and I am happy to help. Our chat window, however, is always here and I try to respond within a few hours, certainly within 24-48 hours.
f) Telehealth is an exciting new frontier, however, it does not provide instant fixes or immediate results. Work can be accomplished rather quick, depending on the presenting issue though, but working with patience, respect, and motivation to explore whatever it is that brought you here will be our best collective assets as we move ahead.
***Note: I have transitioned to mainly text and worksheet counseling. I do not have video slots, but have occasional voice sessions. However, the times are changing and likely not available weekly. If you are looking for video sessions or regular voice sessions, I am not the counselor for you and encourage you to transition to someone who can better meet your needs. My services are geared for new clients or those wanting to learn more about processes.
