Karen Devlin, LPC has been providing direct mental health services since 1999 and as a licensed professional counselor since 2008. During that time, Karen has provided both individual & family therapeutic services to children & their families as well as adults ages 18 years and up.
Currently, Karen is providing individual therapeutic services at Choices for Life Counseling (www.cflfostercare.com/oklahomaoutpatient1) with a focus of services with individuals ages 55+ and addressing issues related to depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, grief & loss, trauma, chronic medical conditions and end of life issues.
Approximately 1 ½ years ago, Karen joined the online counseling community with BetterHelp (www.betterhelp.com/karen-foster-devlin/) and works with individuals ages 18+ struggling with issues related to depression, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, trauma, grief & loss, life changes & transitions, relationship issues, LGBT issues, parenting issues and chronic medical issues. She recognized and learned very quickly that the online counseling community was an effective way to provide support & assistance to individuals who might not otherwise have access to these services.
Most recently, Karen joined the editorial team at BetterHelp (BetterHelp.com/advice) contributing to the continued expansion and growth of a free online mental health resource.
Karen is passionate about mental health awareness and the journey individuals take to be the healthiest version of themselves. Whether it’s through providing direct services, her contribution to the editorial team at BetterHelp or advocation towards increased mental health awareness in other ways, she is committed to positively impacting individuals as they take charge of writing their own life story.
Karen received her Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from Southern Nazarene University in 1997 and her Masters in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma in 2003. She completed all requirements with the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2008.
“My Philosophy on Mental Health & Wellness”
We all get one life to live and I believe that everyone truly wants that life to be not only productive, but also include elements such as happiness, fulfillment, joy and peace. With all the challenges that life can throw at us, it can be difficult to maintain those qualities with any real consistency. However, with the right information, tools & support, it’s not only attainable but a real possibility for each of us.
With that in mind, I strive to encourage & empower each person I work with to embrace their own self value, worth and capabilities. To take ownership of their own emotional health by working through past trauma, understanding the power of our thoughts & the very real impact those thoughts have on our lives and learning the difference between those things we can control & those we can’t. Whether it’s through therapy, increasing our own mental health awareness through online articles and other resources or reaching out to our “tribe” or support system, we all have the power to be the author of our own life story and live the quality of life we not only want but deserve.
