About Me

Reaching out for help can be the hardest and most essential step in changing your life for the better. We all have reasons for wanting change, none of which are more worthwhile than that of someone else. However, going about the search for your next step and the type of support needed for each person varies. That is the beauty of online counseling, you have access to many different types of support professionals to enable you to match with just the right person!

I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Health and Community Studies with a concentration in Psychology from University of Maine at Machias and Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maine. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Bangor, Maine and have been practicing as a Therapist/Counselor for over 3 years. I began in the field of Mental Health 15 years ago and have been gathering knowledge and experience along my journey. I have worked in many different settings, and with many different populations ranging from Children's/Teen's Residential Treatment, Specialized School Programs for behavioral intervention, Child Welfare/Reunification, Parent Education, Clinical Assessment and many forms of Counseling. I have experience in helping people through parenting struggles, substance use/abuse, LGBTQ needs, anger management, trauma and interpersonal interactions. My focus for the last few years has been on confidence, self-esteem and communication strategies as well as trauma/abuse and domestic violence.

My counseling style is direct and compassionate. I believe that each person is the expert of their own lives and that within them is the power and knowledge to overcome any and all struggles they may face. Support, guidance and education are the primary facets which allow all people to grow. I believe in treating all people with respect and providing honest, constructive feedback and challenging each person to find their best self. My primary modality of practice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which allows a person to use their own thoughts and behaviors to alter their perception of themselves and their surroundings/reality through use of challenging thoughts/beliefs with fact. With support, your brain already has all the tools it needs to see yourself and your life in a more positive light.
Is it time for you to embrace your best self?

I really like Alainas style. This feels more like a workshop or an educational experience as opposed to traditional “therapy”. She’s really responsive to what I want to work on and what areas where I perceive that I need help. It feels like this is about me and she’s just there to keep the process moving.

Alaina has been an incredible help. I came into therapy very hesitant, and I wasn’t open to much change, but she helped me feel deserving of help and love.

She always reaches out to check in on me even if we don’t have our weekly meeting.

She goes above and beyond to find ways to help me.

I LOVE her laidback manner - talking about ice cream and chips. It helps me feel more relaxed - as if I was simply talking to a friend.

I cannot thank you enough for all that you’ve done.

Alaina is very intuitive. She responds in a timely manner and her answers or comments are designed to make you think. If you fail to understand what are meant to be insights, she will explain the meaning with care and compassion until you get it!!! Her style makes you feel supported by yourself and by her. I like learning and not feeling ignorant about concepts I'm learning to better care for myself. That's one of her many talents.

Alaina is the first therapist I've had to immediately recognize what the actual problem is and started helping me immediately. The best therapist I have had.

Alaina has been patient and supportive. She offers alternative ways to think of my situation. Her feedback always comes across in a positive manor. It has been helpful to know that she will get back to me quickly when I write a message on the counseling page. (Always the same day)

Alaina is an amazing counselor! From the very beginning she has helped me narrow down my immediate needs along with longer term issues to work on. She is friendly, warm, and very knowledgeable. She has already given me wonderful coping skills to work on and they have been helping a lot. She is also very timely and quick to respond. I highly recommend her!
