I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Health and Community Studies with a concentration in Psychology from University of Maine at Machias and Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maine. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Bangor, Maine and have been practicing as a Therapist/Counselor for over 3 years. I began in the field of Mental Health 15 years ago and have been gathering knowledge and experience along my journey. I have worked in many different settings, and with many different populations ranging from Children's/Teen's Residential Treatment, Specialized School Programs for behavioral intervention, Child Welfare/Reunification, Parent Education, Clinical Assessment and many forms of Counseling. I have experience in helping people through parenting struggles, substance use/abuse, LGBTQ needs, anger management, trauma and interpersonal interactions. My focus for the last few years has been on confidence, self-esteem and communication strategies as well as trauma/abuse and domestic violence.
My counseling style is direct and compassionate. I believe that each person is the expert of their own lives and that within them is the power and knowledge to overcome any and all struggles they may face. Support, guidance and education are the primary facets which allow all people to grow. I believe in treating all people with respect and providing honest, constructive feedback and challenging each person to find their best self. My primary modality of practice is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which allows a person to use their own thoughts and behaviors to alter their perception of themselves and their surroundings/reality through use of challenging thoughts/beliefs with fact. With support, your brain already has all the tools it needs to see yourself and your life in a more positive light.

Alaina is very intuitive. She responds in a timely manner and her answers or comments are designed to make you think. If you fail to understand what are meant to be insights, she will explain the meaning with care and compassion until you get it!!! Her style makes you feel supported by yourself and by her.
