I believe that happiness is not something that we seek or achieve, but something that we allow. We all experience stress and emotional pain that affects us, the way we think about ourselves, and the way we see the world around us. There are alot of things that stop us from allowing our happiness.
Life is difficult, there is no instruction manual, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. None of us would know what we look like without a mirror, and a good therapist is that mirror. I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years experience working to help people to unlock the keys to eliminating barriers to happiness and success.
My undergraduate and graduate education is in human development, counseling psychology, and family therapy. My treatment approach is always collaborative and respectful, nonjudgmental and accepting, warm and inviting. My treatment methods are Emotion Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, Experiential Communications, and Systemic. Treatment is an exploration of past, present, and future interactions between thoughts and beliefs, emotions and experiences, and actions. Relationships with ourselves, others, and the world around us is a key focus of therapy. In a nutshell though, the key to therapy is our relationship that is based on honesty and trust, respect for your privacy and confidentiality, and my genuineness and unconditional acceptance of you.
I have been trusted by prisons and helped hardened inmates and criminals to often become happy and productive people. I have worked in hospitals and helped patients that are coping with disease, injury, and addictions to achieve better health and happiness. I have been trusted by numerous states and the federal government to help abused foster children and combat veterans to heal from horrifying experiences. I have worked extensively with clients with clinical mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addictions. I have also worked extensively with clients to work though non-mental health issues such as relationship issues and conflict, separation and divorce, sexual intimacy, LGBTQ issues, parenting issues, grief and loss, and educational/vocational problems. Choosing a therapist is a highly personal decision and a good fit is important. I thank you for your consideration and if you believe that we might be a good fit then I will do my best to further earn your trust. I offer the hope of positive change by embarking on your journey with you as you seek to allow greater happiness and a more meaningful life. Good luck to you on your journey!

Through TeleHealth, I’ve met a therapist who has gotten to know my life better than many close friends. I’m expressive by nature, and Alan offers me ways to feel comfortable expressing myself to cope with traumatic injuries, extreme stress and anxiety, grief and loss experiences, and many resurfaced memories that were posing many hurdles in my healing journey. Alan has a vast amount of Professional experiences that relate to my life before I was assigned to him through BetterHelp. I feel that Alan is the therapist I needed who has been able to connect with me on multiple levels of consciousness, and I have learned to trust the recommendations he has made to continue on the path to overcome the most difficult challenges I’ve faced so far. Thank goodness for Alan Schweizer and BetterHelp!
Great therapist, listens well and knows what he's talking about
He is amazing. Easy to talk to great listener. I would recommend him to everyone.
Alan is fantastic! He has experience working with all kinds of patients and he knows what he is talking about. He is a great listener and he relates a lot of things to his own personal life which makes him more relatable. I like that he give you action items to do on your own time, it makes me feel like I'm working towards making a change.
Alan is knowledgable and very caring. I felt he sincerely listened to me and wants the best for me.
I've only been working with Alan for a short time, but he is wonderful. I feel very comfortable telling him anything. He always uses easy-to-understand examples, backed by scientific explanations and research as well. An evidence based approach. He listens and provides insight that I've not been able to infer on my own.
Alan Schweizer is really one of the best therapists I've worked with. He immediately understood the entire picture and reflected the issues that needed to be solved. His approach is very prompt, respectful, compassionate and supportive. I would gladly recommend him to anyone.
Alan is great!
