About Me

I believe that happiness is not something that we seek or achieve, but something that we allow. We all experience stress and emotional pain that affects us, the way we think about ourselves, and the way we see the world around us. There are alot of things that stop us from allowing our happiness.

Life is difficult, there is no instruction manual, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. None of us would know what we look like without a mirror, and a good therapist is that mirror. I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years experience working to help people to unlock the keys to eliminating barriers to happiness and success.

My undergraduate and graduate education is in human development, counseling psychology, and family therapy. My treatment approach is always collaborative and respectful, nonjudgmental and accepting, warm and inviting. My treatment methods are Emotion Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, Experiential Communications, and Systemic. Treatment is an exploration of past, present, and future interactions between thoughts and beliefs, emotions and experiences, and actions. Relationships with ourselves, others, and the world around us is a key focus of therapy. In a nutshell though, the key to therapy is our relationship that is based on honesty and trust, respect for your privacy and confidentiality, and my genuineness and unconditional acceptance of you.

I have been trusted by prisons and helped hardened inmates and criminals to often become happy and productive people. I have worked in hospitals and helped patients that are coping with disease, injury, and addictions to achieve better health and happiness. I have been trusted by numerous states and the federal government to help abused foster children and combat veterans to heal from horrifying experiences. I have worked extensively with clients with clinical mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addictions. I have also worked extensively with clients to work though non-mental health issues such as relationship issues and conflict, separation and divorce, sexual intimacy, LGBTQ issues, parenting issues, grief and loss, and educational/vocational problems. Choosing a therapist is a highly personal decision and a good fit is important. I thank you for your consideration and if you believe that we might be a good fit then I will do my best to further earn your trust. I offer the hope of positive change by embarking on your journey with you as you seek to allow greater happiness and a more meaningful life. Good luck to you on your journey!

Alan is incredibly supported and helpful. He had helped me navigating through my toughest time and turning my life around. I now have better understanding of my emotions. My mood is also more stable. My relationships with my partner and my parents are getting better as I now can focus on them instead of being lost in the trance of my own negative thoughts. I am grateful for the achievements I got out of working with Alan.

As I process feelings and traumatic experiences of my adulthood, I am also recognizing how social patterns that were happening during my childhood have resurfaced. I’m working through finding safety in my emotions that have been causing me to fear repeated retaliation for speaking up, which has prevented me from connecting on those deeper levels of trust within relationships. Establishing and maybe re-establishing stronger emotional connection with people in the future is an important factor for my own human growth process.

Alan is fantastic! He has experience working with all kinds of patients and he knows what he is talking about. He is a great listener and he relates a lot of things to his own personal life which makes him more relatable. I like that he give you action items to do on your own time, it makes me feel like I'm working towards making a change.

I've only been working with Alan for a short time, but he is wonderful. I feel very comfortable telling him anything. He always uses easy-to-understand examples, backed by scientific explanations and research as well. An evidence based approach. He listens and provides insight that I've not been able to infer on my own.
