Dr. Alex Kohl

(PhD, LPC)

About Me

Hello, my name is Dr. Alex Kohl and I have 10+ years experience as a therapist working with a wide variety of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, bipolar disorder, low self-esteem/self-worth, self-harm behaviors, loss/grief, life transitions, and trauma. I strive to create a warm and welcoming environment so my clients feel safe and heard while discussing difficult issues.

I take a flexible and integrative approach using the biopsychosocial model to meet the specific needs of my clients. I practice client-centered, systemic, and emotion-focused therapies, and will often include other theoretical orientations, such as CBT, ACT, and DBT. I also have extensive training in neuropsychology and neuroscience and incorporate education about the brain-behavior relationship to help with treatment.

My primary focus is you. Choosing to obtain therapy services is a healthy and proactive decision that I would be honored to take part in with you. Everyone is different, and those differences are what make us unique. My goal is to develop a strong therapeutic relationship with you so that we can explore those differences and enable you to grow and change in a positive direction. Therapy is useful for those in crisis, as well as those experiencing daily life struggles, and I will do everything I can to help you develop and achieve your goals in therapy.

Written by M.A. on Oct 04, 2017 after counseling with Alex for 2 days depression, stress, anxiety, relationship, and trauma and abuse

I have been seeking therapists several times growing up and also in my adult life. I liked only few of them because of different approach and techniques that wouldn't really work with me. But then I was match with Dr Alex Kohl. I would describe him as a very patient person, compassionate , calming and AVAILABLE.
What I like the most about him is that he is not only listening to you and letting you vent, we all have friends that can listen to us. Dr Alex listens, interacts, and he is extremely empathic and gives me all the tools that I need to help me deal with different problems I have in different avenues in my life. He is by far the best therapist I have had so far and I am no longer planning of cancelling my membership and this is totally because of the great help he is bringing me.
