My name is Alex Merlo. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my
Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy
from Antioch University. I have over six years of experience helping a wide range of individuals.
I chose a career in healthcare, as I have a huge passion for working with others, as well as
planting positive seeds (and habits) in other’s lives.
I specialize in the treatment of mental health disorders and issues related to depression, self
harm, suicidal ideation, substance use, eating disorders, grief and loss, developmental delays,
anxiety, stress, defiance, trauma and family conflict/systems.
I have experience working in various settings including outpatient, school programs and
residential providing services creating a validating and supportive environment for my clients
during their time of transition.
My therapeutic approach is empathetic, client centered and strength based. I use CBT, DBT
skills, Solution focused therapy, as well as meeting the client where they are at and assessing
any other skills that need to be implemented.
Outside of my career, I enjoy spending time with my family and dog, doing yoga, engaging in
mindfulness and being in nature as much as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I tend to be a
homebody as well and don’t mind lounging on the couch reading a book or doing a puzzle.
If this is your first time in therapy, I know that it can be an uncomfortable situation putting
yourself out there, but I just wanted to say, you came to the right place. It is a huge step to be
able to advocate yourself and acknowledge the fact that you may need some more support in
some areas of your life. If it is not your first time, welcome back! I am looking forward to working
