About me

My name is Lexy and I am glad you're here. I created BrightLife to help people discover and build the lives they want. I work with people to manage moods and feelings, move through grief and trauma, recover from substance use and addiction, and improve relationships. I am sex-positive and have experience working with people in many kinds of relationships including non-monogamous ones. I support and identify with the LGBTQ community. I believe you deserve to feel empowered in your world, to discover what you want your life to be, and to have the tools and support to live the life that is right for you.

I graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Master’s Degree in counseling in 2011, and I am licensed as a professional counselor in multiple states. In addition to my counseling education I have additional specialized training in helping people manage emotions, heal trauma, improve relationships, and increase motivation.

What You Can Expect From Me
Because trust is an important part of our counseling relationship, I want you to know up front what to expect when we work together.
-I will communicate with you reliably by following the counseling agreement we make together.
-I will use my skills and knowledge to help you make your life better in the ways you choose. I am committed to your best interests.
-I will be honest with you.
-I will listen to you and seek to understand what you are trying to say.
-I won’t tell you what to do. I will help you figure out what you think is best for you.
-I will advocate for you. If you need it, and with your permission, I will communicate with others to let them know you are working on improving your life in counseling.
-I will keep our conversations private.

Alexa Thompson is a great counselor who does not judge. Alexa asks important questions that make us think about the situation, which changes our perspectives or provides clarity. Her feedback on issues or situations is very helpful.

She is kind and courteous and tells you want needs to be said rather than what you want to hear. She's also been a great in helping me sort out my thoughts and feelings into a more coherent manner, giving me the ability to better understand everything that I'm going through and really helps figure out the root of the problem. I've only been talking with her for a couple of weeks, but so far just talking with her about whatever is on my mind really helps relieve the stress and I do genuinely feel better afterward.

I like that Alexa is direct and honest to a refreshing degree. She doesn't tell me what I want to hear but what I need to hear. She is respectful but doesn't mince words either, and I truly appreciate that. She is genuine and I feel that she truly tries to understand and sympathize with me. She's been helpful. I appreciate her time.

Alexa has been a great outlet for me. She is always quick to respond, provides excellent advice, and never leaves me asking 'what? or how should I interpret that?' Sometimes its hard to truly get to understand and know a person through online portals like this. But Alexa has no problem with that. I enjoy every session and look forward to talking with Alexa daily :) I'd highly recommend her!
