About me

I am a bilingual, Afro-Latina, Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of experience working with families, couples and individuals. Supporting, guiding and reassuring others have been an integral part of my career. I am dedicated to providing individuals and families the tools for their own growth and self-sufficiency. As a life coach, parent advocate/educator, family reunification worker and therapist, I have had the absolute pleasure of working with clients from a variety of backgrounds. I have experience working with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career and life challenges, ADHD, Autism, and much more. I also help many people who have experienced emotional or physical trauma.

I have an eclectic and integrative style of therapy. I often use therapeutic modalities that are adaptable and can help you achieve the best possible outcomes. I work with families from a systemic perspective with the ultimate goal of understanding the individual and families at a higher level. I truly believe that respectful, sensitive and compassionate treatment of others is the best approach. Judgement, labeling and inequality are not values I embrace.

My approach combines Cognitive-behavioral, Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy, Client-centered Therapy, Internal Family System, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I believe that seeking help when needed shows not just courage, but a greater level of awareness and desire to improve one’s life. Know that I am happy to be on your corner and help you in this process.

I look forward to working with you!

Alexandra has been fantastic and is a consummate professional through and through. She takes problems and attacks them from all angles and it's always refreshing to hear her mechanisms for coping and recovery!

Throughout the years it has been difficult for me to seek out help with issues through a therapist. Recently I feel as if it was time to do so, and I am very glad to have talked with Alexandra. She is kind, honest, and very knowledgeable about the problems that we all seek to have fixed in our family and everyday lives. Given her expertise and knowledge, I feel as if she already knows the situations that have given me issues in the past, and in doing so helps me recognize key patterns that allow me to seek a better outcome in the future. Anyone who works with Alexandra should consider themselves very fortunate, as she will work hard at providing you with solutions backed with personal, and more importantly, professional experience.

Alexandra was my first ever therapist and I am so glad that that was the case. She’s very sweet, tells jokes to lighten the mood, and is very great listener. We worked on different ways to help me through my symptoms, such as giving me little activities to work on. She also provided me with plenty of resources needed so I could better understand myself and diagnosis. She’s timely in her responses and I really look forward to our live session :)

Alexandra has been very helpful in guiding me through a challenge I'm currently having. She has opened my eyes to understand situations deeper. She's thoughtful in her responses to me and makes me feel better about the situation while being very honest.

I wasn't sure what to expect going into the session because it was the first time I'd done any sort of therapy, but Dr. Martinez made it easy to get comfortable quickly.
