Hi, I'm Alexandra, a licensed mental health counselor in New York. I have experience working with adults of all ages in indiviudal and group settings. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience assessing and intervening in acute crisis situations. For several years, I have worked with individuals in managing symptoms related to mental health diagnoses of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. My experiences also includes working with populations that have dealt with addiction issues, as well as with individuals dealing with problems related to sexual functioning, sexual identity and/or gender dysphoria. Among the therapeutic theories and techniques I utilize are cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, solution focused, and existential therapies.
I believe that each individual possesses the tools and skills to improve his/her own functioning but that we all need a little help from time to time. There is no shame in acknowledging that creating change in one's life is difficult or asking for support along the way, and as a therapist, my role is to provide support and assistance for your individual needs. I believe therapy works best when it is a collaboration, therefore I am not here to pass judgment or disrespect your views, but instead work with you in a way that best serves your needs. Along the way, I often use humor to process difficult topics and I hope to encourage you for taking the risk of being vulnerable in therapy.

I have been working with Alexandra for just over 3 months. I have used other counselors in the past on Better Help but I see myself sticking with Alexandra long-term. The main reason that I chose to switch counselors previously is that it felt like the things I would say to them were only being repeated back to me. I believe this was possibly meant to make me feel like what I was saying was understood but responses did not ever feel helpful or productive. From Alexandra I feel that what I am saying is not only understood but I also get more advice and suggestion-type responses. From her insight I can pull my own ideas of what might work for me to try for positive change.
Alexandra is such an incredible listener. She gives thoughtful advice and provides supplemental worksheets to help reinforce things you need to work on. She's helped me through some pretty rough times and has always been so encouraging and compassionate through it all!
Alexandra created a totally safe space for me in therapy. I'm dealing with some controversial, very scary stuff, and she has never been judgmental or made me feel ashamed of myself. I'm grateful she was assigned to me, and I feel she is understanding above and beyond what most therapists would be able to handle.
Alexandra has been a lifeline for me in my recovery process. I never understood what people meant when they said they "clicked" with a counselor but from Alexandra's first message to me it was clear that she "got me," and could provide valuable insight into my life the way no other traditional therapist has. She has become like my mental health pen pal and it's comforting to know I have someone compassionate and clearly well-educated to check in with.

Alex is a phenomenal counselor. I have done traditional therapy before, for many years in fact, and was skeptical that online counseling could measure up, but at the time I started with BetterHelp, I did not have insurance and so this was my best option.
Now that I have insurance again, however, I am going to keep working with Alex because I really feel it she is helping me just as well as any in-person therapist could. Plus, the fact that she responds to my messages between sessions, is something I never had with traditional in-person therapy.
She is always on point with her insights, and very compassionate. I feel like I have someone on my side helping me through difficult times, who is truly interested in my improvement and welfare. She is also versed in CBT, which is invaluable, as I can review the skills with her, and she even recommends worksheets between sessions. I feel very lucky indeed to have Alexandra on my wellness team!

Alexandra is a very understanding and knowledgeable counselor. She has provided me valuable insight into patterns of my behavior that I was not aware of. She is also able to keep up with the different thoughts I throw her way and find a way to connect the dots, helping me get to the root of the problem.
