About Me
My name is Alexandra Therrien, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and currently pursuing my Doctoral Degree in Clinical Sexology with a specialization in Transgender Care from the International Institute of Clinical Sexology.
I earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Carlos Albizu University and Bachelor’s in Science Degree in Psychology from Nova SouthEasternUniversity. I am bilingual- proficient in English and Spanish- and as a result have the opportunity to apply my skills with a range of culturally diverse clients.
I started my career by volunteering at homeless shelters, then transitioned to work on forensic psychology helping ex-convicts to re-enter the community, I held groups and individual therapy for domestic abuse, alcohol abuse and parenting. I also had the opportunity to work with cancer patients and their families by supporting them and guiding them through that painful path of illness and recovery from cancer. Then my journey took me to helping children and families with all kinds of issues including sex abuse, schizophrenia, cerebral palsy patients, amongst others. Due to my passion to help the most in need or those that are forgotten in our community, I decided to advocate for inmates, specifically the mentally ill, so I began to work with the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit population in a Florida prison. It was challenging but I succeeded in contributing to that population.
Since the beginning, the focus of my clinical work has been to support individuals, couples, and families on multifaceted issues including mental health, abuse/violence, stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement/grief, death/dying, and relationship issues.
As a result of my journey as an advocate for change, it is my professional mission and calling to help couples, including LGBTQ community, to create positive and healthy relationships.

Its been 2 weeks. She very encouraging. Non judgmental and understands an empathic person need for boundaries. So difficult to do.
So kind, helping me greatly. I’m a first time patient to therapy-it’s become something I look forward to and find a moment of peace in my busy life.
One of the best and sincerest therapists I will ever have . If I can choose her for life I will . She truly listens and understands you and acknowledges every move . I Love her like a best friend .
Alexandra is absolutely amazing. I am so happy to have her as a therapist
Alexandra has been great! She responds to my texts quickly and really listens to my what I have to say, but also tells me what I need to hear. I look forward to working with her more soon!
Alexandra is an excellent therapist. She listens very well and gives very constructive, non biased advice. I have only had 3 sessions, but I already feel better using the tools Alexandra has given me. I strongly recommend her.
She's amazing. After my therapy sessions with her, I feel heard and understood.
