I am a licensed clinical social worker in the State of New Mexico with 5 years of experience working with individuals and families. My areas of specialty are depression, stress and anxiety, trauma, and parenting issues. I also work with clients who have experienced: low motivation, low self-esteem, low confidence, addictions, grief and loss, anger, and family or relationship issues.
My counseling style is client-centered utilizing evidenced-based interventions. I am a certified Multi-Systemic Therapist (MST), and I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I utilize a systems perspective to conceptualize a client's needs, creating a complete picture of how to address a client's presenting concerns. I incorporate a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach with shame-resilience principles to build and strengthen one's self-efficacy. I value the importance of a judgment free atmosphere and building a strong therapeutic alliance in order to help my clients reach their goals. I practice empathic listening and enjoy assisting others in deepening their own self-awareness. I will structure my sessions to meet your specific needs.
On a personal note, I am a former professional cyclist, triathlete, and ultra runner. I am a Crossfit Level 1 trainer, and I do Crossfit as well as Olympic weight lifting. I am a new mom to little Ella, and I am enjoying the adjustment to motherhood. After so many years of working with families in my social work practice, it is rewarding to become a parent myself.
I understand seeking help for personal struggles is difficult and recognize the courage it takes to reach out. Change is not always easy, but I am here to help you every step of the way. I love working with Alisha, she is so kind and caring and knows exactly what I need and never judges. She is also there for me like a friend even if I'm having a good day.
Alisha Edmiston takes the time to listen and really understand what I am struggling with. She is the most experienced and engaged counsellor that I have had the privilege to be able to work with. She has really and truly changed my life for the better in helping me to work through my past and better manage my present. This has given me hope - which is priceless.
Alisha helped me a lot over the last couple of months. I consulted her mainly when I found myself in a time of confusion about the further direction of my life. So far we touched on many different subjects, some of which I haven't even seen as a concern before talking to her. Alisha is always there for me, even outside of our regular schedule. She is always friendly and professional, and pushed me in the right direction (or made me see it by myself..). I can highly recommend her to anyone, who is open for some serious counselling, in which you also have to do homework - it's not just sit and listen, but an active approach to more happiness in your life!
What I love most about Alisha is that she utilizes active listening and reiterates what I tell her; this shows me that she is truly listening and understanding. She is always offering me fresh perspectives on my struggles, and I love her action-based approach. She takes the time to ask if I understand or agree, and is always ready to offer alternatives when I need it.
I adore Alisha. This woman has helped me pull myself from the darkest places.
Alisha is an amazing counselor! She has helped me with so many issues and everything that she has recommended me doing has worked above and beyond. I am so thankful that i was paired with Alisha. She has truly changed my life !!
This is my second or third review for Alisha. She helped me a lot and changed my life. I highly recommend her and I already did recommend her to some of my friends.
Alisha reminds me to take a values-based approach to decision making, and relationships. She supports and validates my point of view, and objectives, and helps me to move through self-doubt, and self-criticism. She is a thoughtful, intelligent, and experienced therapist.
Alisha has been a great help and a positive experience. After being matched with 2 counselors initially I felt like Alicia was a good match almost straight away. Very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable and happy to be open.
I’m really benefiting from this experience and appreciative my counselor.
I felt supported by Alisha right away because she takes the time to respond to messages, she sends video messages and helpful articles or podcasts and I really feel like she has a lot of tools and resources that she is constantly sharing with you. She reads your journal entries and takes the time to ask you about them. I have only had a few sessions but I’m very content and feel like she is very professional.
Alisha is absolutely amazing. I am so thankful for her.
Very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. She genuinely cares and I’ve already made huge improvements when it comes to my mental health. She listens and provides me with positive strategies to get through tough situations.
Alisha is an incredibly compassionate and grounded person, and I find myself looking forward to our talks every week. She is very generous with her time, and I feel reassured that I can always count on her for her kind and level-headed advice.
Alisha is thoughtful in her answers and really knows how to pull me out of the current experience to look at it from another point of view. I do not believe this is a skill everyone has, licensed therapist or not. The activities she shares weekly are always unique and thought provoking. It is my first counseling experience, and I fully trust Alisha to be able to get me to think about where I need to be in my life to feel and be successful.
Alisha is a smart, professional counselor who has already made an impact on my life. She knows how to narrow in on what your problems are and draw them out, further discussing and dissecting them. She genuinely cares and makes the effort to help you as best as she can. A wonderful person and someone I highly recommend speaking with, should you need help.
I have had dozens of therapists in my life and Alisha ranks up at the very top. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the very latest in brain research and psychological approaches. She uses a variety of techniques and resources to match precisely my particular needs. She is completely approachable and empathetic but also pragmatic and professional. I feel heard and cared for, and she gives me practical strategies to deal with my troubles. I am happy with my choice to use BetterHelp and with their pairing of Alisha and I way beyond my most optimistic expectations. I am encouraging my kids and friends to try BetterHelp. And now more than ever, in these times of social distancing, I’m so very grateful to have this therapy from the safety of my own home.
A good listener. I feel supported with every communications and less anxious, knowing an expert is helping me to process my thoughts. A professional but speaking to you like a friend. She also gives wonderful coping tips.
Alisha is wonderful. She always manages to draw out something from our sessions that I didn't see. Her manner and her insight is soothing, kind, and constructive.
It the short time we have been working together Alisha has made an enormous impact on me. I appreciate her knowledge and expertise and look forward to continuing to work with her.
Thank you Alisha
Alisha has been a terrific help even though we've only been working together for a short time. She is willing to talk to me on the phone and she always gives me actionable "homework" for the coming week. She checks in with me regularly and responds promptly to my messages. Finding her has been a huge relief and I feel very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and empathetic ear.
Alisha is great, she’s really helped me through this tough time in my life and with my anger issues. She understands me and knows how to make me feel better. She’s great!
Alisha has helped massively in the short time she has been working with me. She’s helped me to challenge myself and my way of thinking and allowed me to dig a little deeper. She has helped me think more of myself and see things more positively. I’d recommend Alisha to anyone, it’s like having a pen pal!
Alisha listens to me and pushes me to do better.
Alisha is honestly amazing. She is the perfect mixture of an educated professional, and a friend. She is extremely attentive, always knows what's going on, and what to say. Not only that, but she often tends to try to get you to answer your own questions, through helping you dig deep inside yourself. This is always done in a super natural way. Honestly I would recommend everyone to sign up with her
Best decision I made on BH was to go with Alisha as my counselor! I wanted someone with a 'no frills' approach to problems/challenges, and can provide practical solutions. Unlike other therapists (and I've been through a few), working with Alisha I feel I have clear goals and objectives to aim for and her responses are clearly well thought out and actionable. Very practical advice that I applied and saw results in my life with. 5 star experience. Look forward to working with her in the future again. Thanks, Alisha!
I was assigned a different counsellor but chose Alisha because I preferred her profile. It was a good call because over the past 2 months she had helped me deal with issues that have been bottled up for 45 years. Her gentle, probing questions made me think and I've applied the exercises she has taught me. It is not hyperbole to say she has changed my life.
Alisha has been absolutely wonderful to process through a lot of life changing and challenging events. Alisha tailors information to my preferred learning and processing style. When I talk with Alisha it truly feels like a conversation, making the process for a therapy newbie so easy. I highly recommend Alisha.
Alisha was wonderful. She has a lot of expertise and knows how to get to the bottom of what is causing the issues that are occurring for you. She will treat you and your issues with respect and allow you to speak as much or as little as you like. She will find the best ways to tackle the issues at hand and will also allow you to be the judge of which one fits your needs most. Making the decision to come to this website to better my mental health took a lot of courage on my part and Alisha definitely reinforced my judgement with the amount of attention and care she showed throughout the duration of the counseling services. Thanks Alisha!
Alisha is patient, kind, and very thoughtful. She always knows exactly what's at the root of any issue I bring up and knows how to address them in healthy ways that actually work. Communication with her was always a breeze. I highly recommend Alisha. She will put in the time and effort to help you and encourage you to do the same for yourself no matter what.
Alisha is a wonderful, open-minded, positive soul that is a great listener and has taught me to cope with circumstances in more constructive ways. What I have learned I use daily and it has created a big change in my life.
Alisha is so sweet and nice. She is very understanding and gives me the best advice to help get through my struggles. She is very good with her words and the way she explains things. I'm very thankful to have a counselor like her!!
Alisha has been very supportive and gives me actionable insights and activities. This is my first time reaching out for support and I am so happy I did! The medium has also worked well for me - more of an ongoing conversation via chat than a once weekly session. It allows me to do more self reflection and get faster feedback. She’s helped me realize a lot of things I could not get to just by reading books or reflecting on my own She’s super welcoming too!
