About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California that has been providing support to our community for seven years. I received my Master's in Social Work from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
I provide individual psychotherapy for adults. I want to understand your reasons and goals for seeking support. Even if you don't know why you'd like to be in therapy, we can explore that together. Overall, I support a process that leads to more joy and less suffering. I view therapy as a joint venture. I want to know what is hard for you and provide insights to assist you moving through pain in a healthy way. I put emphasis on acceptance of a client's current state, providing meaningful reflections, and appropriate interventions. I approach clients with a trauma-informed perspective.
I am client-centered, meaning I believe that you know yourself best. I will not tell you what issues are important, how you should make choices, or push an agenda for treatment.
I practice harm reduction, meaning I look for ways to encourage safety in people's choices. I aim to meet you where you are at. I won't hold any judgement or stigma for the choices you have made or are currently making.
I have practiced specifically in the field of HIV/AIDS for 5 years. I understand how stigmatizing, isolating and continually traumatizing having HIV/AIDS can be.
I am comfortable supporting clients coping with grief and loss, living with a chronic illness/pain, addiction, trauma and abuse, LGBT-related issues, and depression/anxiety symptoms.
I utilize a Harm Reduction approach to behavior change and never impose goals or expectations on clients. I believe I can help by parsing out your concerns, challenging where appropriate and supporting the decision you come to. I am flexible in my approach and help clients to understand their own motivations to change or problem solve.
I truly enjoy helping clients realize their full potential, whatever that means to them. I operate from a strengths-based, empowerment model that honors the client's goals for themselves.
I am only available for messaging and live chat sessions. I am not available for phone or video sessions. Please confirm your time with me before booking through the online scheduler to confirm that I am available. Thank you!

She is attentive and really tries to understand my perspective while also offering her expertise on how to deal with it
Great and caring!
She makes me feel heard and that I can fully trust her. She asks the right questions that help me untangle my thoughts and I’m really grateful
I really like that she answers me back within a good time range and I love how she helps me see things in different views. Honestly really great help.
Allison is very responsive and attentive. I can tell she processes new information given to her with a clear desire to utilize her skills in the most helpful way she can.
Allison is wonderful! I've only been on the site for a short time but already feel a lot of improvement! :)
Allison is awesome.
I've find Allison Horky to be very helpful with both in her insights and in helping me to gain a clearer perspective on what's really bothering me. I felt right away that she understood what I was going through. Recently I've been going through a particularly hard time and so it's been extremely helpful and valuable to be getting insightful feedback to some of the reactions I'm having from someone who's opinion and insights I can trust.
I look forward to continuing to work with her as much as possible and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking help.
She's been very insightful and has caused me to reexamine the way I think about myself and my natural reactions to things.
