About Me
My name is Alyssa Matz and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Iowa. I have my B. S. in Forensic Psychology from Saint Ambrose University and my M.S.E.d. in Counseling from Western Illinois University. I have worked in community mental health, addiction treatment and recovery, EAP, a college counseling center, and private practice over the last 6 years. I have worked with people to treat anxiety and depression, navigate life changes, learn to manage stress, address addiction and codependency, and explore body image issues and disordered eating.
My mission is to create a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental environment to enable my clients to be authentic, learn new skills, and become who they want to be. I aim to provide a space that helps people embrace who they are. I believe in living in my own authenticity and integrity and in giving compassion to others and meeting each person where they are. I do this using a client-centered base and utilize other techniques such as DBT, mindfulness, CBT, and solution focused skills. I do my best to avoid unhelpful labels and view each person as an individual with their own story.
We all need help sometimes, and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to be that person for someone else. I look forward to going on this journey together.

Alyssa is amazing, she listens to everything I have to say and gives me the advice and encouragement I need when feeling down. I would recommend better help and if I could recommend Alyssa I would too!!
