Amanda Taylor

About Me

I am an out and proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, master's educated in Marriage and Family Therapy, and have extensive and diverse experiences. These experiences include but are not limited to trans persons seeking hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery, couples of all configurations (kink, non-monogamous, etc.), children as young as 5, autism and Asperger's, trauma, and substance abuse. My treatment approach incorporates a person-centered and narrative approach, assisting my patients in re-authoring their personal narratives from a strength-based perspective to build greater understanding and lessen symptoms and distress. In addition, I utilize psychoeducation to inform my patients of the scientific theories that can help them make sense of what they are experiencing and then impart skill-building to directly address these symptoms and build resilience throughout the process.

With me you will find a compassionate style mixed with a gentle challenging approach to both meet you where you are and get you to where you want to go. I find that my patients are the experts on themselves and I merely provide deeper understanding of the more academic side to what is going on with them. Therefore, you may always feel empowered to direct your therapeutic experience where you want to go and away from where you don't want it to go. If you're unsure and need more guidance to decide I can help with that as well! I can always provide recommendations for you and it is always within your power to choose to follow through with those recommendations or go in a different direction.

I have been speaking with Amanda for a year now, and the change as a result of this has been enormous. I still have more work to do, but my anxiety is lower, my relationship with my husband is improved and I’m a happier person. I still have more work to do, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I matched with Amanda, and very quickly I came to understand the scope of her knowledge and her empathic and kind she was. She, unlike many therapists I've had, listens, and responded to me in a manner where I know she was truly hearing me. Amanda has been nothing but helpful and supportive, she is intelligent, kind, and treats her clients like human beings and not just an entry in the DSM or a diagnostic figure to be boxed in and labeled. I would recommend Amanda to anyone who has struggled to find a therapist with the bandwidth of understanding or anyone just looking for a kind soul who clearly wants to do good for others.

I appreciate the supports, honesty, knowledge and understanding of my accountabilities and situations are rather complex as any LGBTQ2S relationships, friendships to queer families can be. I hope to find enough funds to continue working with Amanda, it's hard to find a therapist you connect with, and I'm thankful for the help Amanda provides to me during a difficult sad moment in my life.

She’s very nice.

She amazing with helping me figure things out. If I didn't have this app or Amanda while I'm at school, I don't think I'd make it.
