About Me
I am a licensed mental health therapist with over 10 years experience in the field. I have worked in many settings including inpatient treatment centers for the severely mentally ill, incarceration facilities and drug treatment as well as outpatient treatment in children and families. I have the most experience with couples, families and individuals with bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety and PTSD.
I enjoy finding something that I can relate to with my clients in order to build rapport. I am warm and compassionate and expect you to work as hard on your wellbeing as I will work with you. My approach is mainly dialectical behavioral therapy along with trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy. I tend to be a very laid-back, go-with-the-flow type of person when it comes to therapy. I am here to be your support system and guide you towards your goals so I often give "homework" and I hate calling it that because you're not going to be graded but it's something that I give in between sessions to help with various things but mainly self-reflection. I am very blunt as well, so if I'm thinking it and I don't think it'll be detrimental in any way for me to say it, I'm going to say it, some people love that, some people hate it. If you and I don't click, that's okay, don't quit therapy, quit your therapist! In my spare time (haha, what is that?) I enjoy camping, hiking, gardening, wood burning (as an art form, called pyrography but also around a campfire) and working with epoxy resin. I also have 5 chickens, 7 cats(3 are outside!), a husband and 2 kids. We are soon getting goats too!
Reaching out for help is step one and if you're here, you've accomplished that. I look forward to meeting with you.

She’s great!
Amber is phenomenal. She’s supportive, personable, kind, and outgoing. She’s able to offer different perspectives and therapies, and is patient in the process.
Talking to Amber was so helpful for me during a difficult time. I felt comfortable talking to her and I would recommend her to anyone who needs support while going through any big life changes. She helped me self reflect and gain mental clarity. Thanks for everything Amber!
I haven’t done much yet but I trust her to do her absolute best to help me
she’s very straightforward and understanding, always paying attention and asks questions you didnt think were possible, very eye opening and would definitely recommend if you’re feeling lost
Did amazing in recognizing what I wanted and needed from therapy. It was my first time getting therapy and when I say it’s one of the best decisions I made I mean it. Thanks for everything Amber!!!
Amber is a great listener, and really cares to understand what I need. She sends very fitting journaling prompts and recommends books for me to read.
Amber was amazing and when I start therapy again I am definitely excited that it’ll be her
Amber listens and is very good at picking up things as you talk that you might not even notice. I appreciate her knowledge and skill.
I'm not a big speech writer but I would like to say that I feel better after talking with Amber McKinney more centered, calmer.
