About me

Welcome! I am very excited that you have taken the first step to finding the support that you need. My name is Amelia Adriana Cervantes and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I obtained my Bachelors in Arts with a double major in Psychology and Spanish Literature from the University of California Berkeley and received my Master of Psychology degree in 2007 from Phillips Graduate Institute.

I specialize in the treatment of complex traumas, depression, anxiety, relational issues and parenting. My theoretical orientation is family systems theory, although I also draw from other orientations such as cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment therapy, solution-focused therapy and experiential therapy. In addition, I am certified in the following evidenced-based treatment models: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Triple P (Positive Parenting Practices) and Managing Adaptive Practices.
I believe in taking a holistic approach to treating my clients by inquiring about their faith, cultural background and practices, sexual identity, health and vitality, and overall satisfaction with current relational dynamics. Some of my current interests are hypnosis, sound healing, meditation and somatic experiencing particularly as it pertains to the treatment of complex traumas.

During a typical session with me, you can expect to be in charge of identifying the topics and areas you would like to explore. The sessions would go at your own pace and based on the needs you have each week. My goal is to provide you with a safe and secure attachment, to actively listen to your concerns and to guide you to find your own answers. I believe that you are in control of your own healing and that you already have the capacity to achieve the self-regulation that you need to become empower and self-sufficient.

Amelia has helped turn my life around for the better. She has a way of being able to really understand the undertones of what I’m saying and point them out to me in ways I never imagined. I could not be the person I am today if it wasn’t for her and how she helped show me what I truly deserve in life.
