About Me

Welcome! I am very excited that you have taken the first step to finding the support that you need. My name is Amelia Adriana Cervantes and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I obtained my Bachelors in Arts with a double major in Psychology and Spanish Literature from the University of California Berkeley and received my Master of Psychology degree in 2007 from Phillips Graduate Institute.

I specialize in the treatment of complex traumas, depression, anxiety, relational issues and parenting. My theoretical orientation is family systems theory, although I also draw from other orientations such as cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment therapy, solution-focused therapy and experiential therapy. In addition, I am certified in the following evidenced-based treatment models: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Triple P (Positive Parenting Practices) and Managing Adaptive Practices.
I believe in taking a holistic approach to treating my clients by inquiring about their faith, cultural background and practices, sexual identity, health and vitality, and overall satisfaction with current relational dynamics. Some of my current interests are hypnosis, sound healing, meditation and somatic experiencing particularly as it pertains to the treatment of complex traumas.

During a typical session with me, you can expect to be in charge of identifying the topics and areas you would like to explore. The sessions would go at your own pace and based on the needs you have each week. My goal is to provide you with a safe and secure attachment, to actively listen to your concerns and to guide you to find your own answers. I believe that you are in control of your own healing and that you already have the capacity to achieve the self-regulation that you need to become empower and self-sufficient.

Amelia is great to work with. She guides me, encourages me & creates a safe space for me to explore all my thoughts & emotions. I love that she also brings to my attention the things I could improve on without making me feel like I can’t face them on my own. I love that she challenges me to grow!

Amelia is wonderful. A lot of the issues I wanted to work on with you arise from the fact that I am in a polyamorous relationship. She couldn't be more supportive and less judgmental. She approaches problems from fresh angles and lends new perspectives that are often unexpected, but remarkably effective.

Amelia is the best therapist I have ever had, and I have gone through many over the years both on this platform and others. She is compassionate, thoughtful and provides me with the tools to understand the world around me in a new way after some awful and complicated traumas. Thank you, Amelia!

I can’t say enough good things about Amelia. She has helped me transform so much of myself and my life. I honestly feel like I’ve been gifted with the best therapist in the entire world. She aligns perfectly with me, and her kindness and compassion show through in every single interaction. She makes me feel seen and heard and valued like no other therapist ever has before. She is a divine being with SO much light it’s infectious. Keeping my subscription has sometimes been a financial stretch for me personally, but I make it happen because Amelia provides me so much value that I can’t think of a better way to spend that money. She has truly made a difference in my life, and I hope someday I can repay her a fraction of what she’s given me.

Amelia is very good. It surprised me how much she picked up on just in our first session or two and how she was able to relate some of Carrabba's relations back to me and meaningful way so that I could actually work on some of this stuff. I've already recommended her and BetterHelp to two people in two different states. The first time in my life I think I'm actually going to get over this old old stuff. Thank you Amelia you're awesome.

Dr. Cervantes is a wonderfully, supportive counselor! Therapy for some is a difficult step to take but she manages to create a comfortable space from the comfort of your own home. She's has already helped me progressed through so much already. I'm very happy to have been paired with her.

Amelia has given me the best first experience in therapy that I could have asked for. The greatest listener ever and always follows with applicable advice/suggestions! I am so grateful to have a genuine and caring guide through such a difficult time in my life. Highly recommend :)

Written by K.A. on Jun 08, 2020 after counseling with Amelia for 4 months on issues concerning depression, and stress, anxiety

Amelia is very kind, patient, funny and relatable. She makes you feel comfortable by allowing you to take the lead during sessions and not pushing you to talk about things you’re not ready to. She’s helped me see some of my issues from a different perspective and taught me a few ways to alleviate symptoms. I’ve definitely come a long way since I started sessions with her. I highly recommend her.

She is an amazingly compassionate person who is very perceptive. I've been to counseling before, but this is surreal. It's like she knows me and who I'm about.

Amelia is everything I had ever hoped for when I sought out a therapist. As someone who struggles with anxiety, I've always been too scared to seek out counseling. But she makes me feel like I'm talking to a friend who gives really amazing advice. I would recommend her to anyone!
