Amy Abbasov

(M., Ed., LPC-S)

About Me

Hi! My Name is Amy Abbasov. I am an LPC with a national license issued by the state of Texas and I have an M.Ed. in counseling. I have 9 years of counseling experience. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, family conflicts, coping with grief and loss, parenting issues, social behavior, and crisis counseling.

I am experienced in many counseling techniques and find myself to have an open minded compassionate approach. My counseling style and approach is Holistic/Integrative. The first few sessions start out with a person-centered therapy approach. It is important to establish a trusting, ethical, therapeutic relationship by form of congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathy in the beginning. Sometimes a person-centered approach leads the client to discover the answers for themselves. However, the information collected in the first few sessions may lead to a better suited theory. I feel that issues like depression or anxiety can be helped with cognitive behavioral therapy. CBT has also been great when working with adolescents who struggle with aggression and conduct disorders. I find dialectical behavior therapy techniques to be useful in a counseling setting as well. My counseling style and approach really depends on the client and what best fits the situation. Person-centered therapy, CBT, and DBT have been my main approach and style.

Whether you are seeking change for a healthier happier life, or just need a non judgmental ear to listen, I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you!

This was my first time doing any type of therapy or counseling. I was a nervous wreck and super anxious about the first time I talked to her. Amy was so warm-hearted, open and fun to talk to as well! She made me feel super comfortable, kind of like talking to an old friend. She does a perfect job of balancing listening to me, being supportive and offering me advice and tips. She's awesome and I can't wait to continue my journey with her!!

Amy has helped me navigate through difficult family situations that would usually leave me feeling anxious and lost. With her help I have been able to focus on mindfulness and feel more in control of my environment. I am so thankful for Amy!

Amy immediately made me feel comfortable - like I could share anything. She listened to my needs and we are already working through many of my concerns. It's nice to have someone that listens without judgement and works with my schedule.
