I’m a therapist with over 20 years of experience.
You may be feeling worried or anxious. 2020 and COVID may have put a big dent in your plans or you may be dealing with life changes such as divorce, death, empty nest, career changes, or just a gnawing feeling that something needs to change. Change can leave you doubting yourself, feeling anxious, alone, and not feeling confident.
You may lie awake worrying about the future. In the past, you may have dealt with issues of people-pleasing, perfectionism, or procrastination. You want to feel better and to have a sense of purpose and a way to move forward.
I work primarily with women with anxiety, codependent, self-esteem, and personal development issues. My style is best described as eclectic, having studied and used many forms of therapy including, solution focused, client centered therapy, systems theory, Gestalt, and somatic therapies. I like to focus on what is best for each client. I most enjoy working with people, like you, who are ready to make a positive change in themselves and their lives.
I value and respect each of my clients as being whole and complete, even though you may not feel that way about yourself now. I quickly get to core issues so you can start moving forward to be the person you want to be and to create the life you want. I want you to have confidence in yourself so you are not held back by fear, self-doubt, and that nagging inner voice.
From some of my past clients:
“Amy almost immediately tapped into my fears and empowered me to start making positive changes in my life. What a gift.”
“What I appreciate about Amy’s style is her unique ability to see the core of my challenge or opportunity and provide insightful feedback that inspires me to creative and productive action.”
“I experienced Amy as intelligent, creative, passionate, and generous in her sharing of those qualities.”
“I’ve learned to stand up for myself. It feels good to be heard and I feel confident.”
I look forward to working with you.
Together we can make a positive change in your life.

Amy has been very responsive and a great listener in a time of need. I really appreciate everything that she has done for me thus far.
Great listener and offers lots of ways to learn more about self healing
She has really been there for me when I didn’t feel I had anyone.
Amy is compassionate and straightforward. I appreciate the way she has helped me work through numerous tough situations. She listens well. I appreciate how she ends each session asking me what I am going to do or work on. She keeps me focused on the work I need to do for my own mental and emotional well-being.
I am so thankful I started therapy and I have learned so many tools to help improve my work/life balance and overall stress reduction.
I would like to thank Amy for helping me cope with anxiety and relationship related issues. I am feeling much better compared to when I first met with her. Amy was able to identify the exact issues for me to work on and gave me worksheet and guidance. She stressed the importance to rely on my own decision making, and now I'm more confident that I can get better when trapped with anxiety.
Amy has been amazing in a short period of time she has brought so much light and understanding to my life!
Amy is an awesome counselor. If it weren’t for her helping me along the way, I couldn’t guarantee my healing process would be as persistent. When you go below the surface, that’s when healing becomes more difficult and heavier. However, I am confident with revisiting the past, unlearning, and uncovering emotions. I am doing the work. Even with topics that make me feel vulnerable, she helps me find the courage to have the discussion. She has guided me through the process healing at my own pace. I appreciate Amy’s candidness and ear. Amy is realistic and a true motivator. Her ears are blessed! She listens extremely well. I’d recommend Amy!
Amy Barnes is a calming presence and addresses issues in a sensitive but straight forward way. She finds ways to push me out of my comfort zone.
We have had only one video meeting so far, but have exchanged messages since NYE I believe and my life is already improving. I’m very grateful.
