Dr. Amy Macey

About Me

I am a fully Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan. I earned a Master of Arts degree in School and Community Counseling and also received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling . I have been a therapist in the mental health field for over 15 years. My experiences include working as a clinical therapist and as a school counselor. I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups and I also have extensive knowledge in working with the child, adolescent, and teen populations.

My understanding of counseling comes from many different theoretical orientations. I believe that the client or clients have the solutions to their dilemmas within one’s self. We have the freedom to choose what directions our life takes and the responsibility to take control of that freedom. Therefore, the counselor does not have the “answers” to the client’s “problem” but is a facilitator of the process that helps the client take responsibility and action and come to a resolution.

I place a heavy emphasis on providing a safe, positive, and non-judgmental space where an individual may feel comfortable sharing what they are thinking and feeling. The relationship between the counselor and therapist is of utmost importance. My approach to therapy is one that is trauma-informed and culturally responsive. I have had substantial training in developmental trauma and trauma-informed care. This allows me to understand how adverse childhood experiences may be affecting a client's life today.

I partner with my clients in setting mutually agreed upon goals and offer many tools to help ease their current discomfort. Asking for help takes courage, and I work to build on the courage and strengths of my clients to empower them towards change.

Dr. Macey was extraordinary in her efforts. Although I only had a few sessions with her, the sessions that I did have were all the same very helpful with my issues. I would recommend her in a heartbeat.

She was very intuitive and very smart. I enjoyed my time with her.

Since the beginning she has not belittled me or even made me feel like my thoughts are slightly crazy. She has helped rationalize my thoughts and emotions and help me dig deeper to the root of my problems. She’s been a joy to talk too and i look forward to continuing to work with her.
