I am a clinical social worker licensed in the state of Florida. I have counseling experience in a wide range of areas including depression, anxiety, grief/loss, domestic violence, relationship issues and severe/persistent mental illness. I have worked with many populations but in my earlier years as an intern, I embraced the schizophrenic community and learned everything I could about psychotic related disorders. I studied psychology and studio art at UNC- Wilmington. I loved it so much there that I took summer classes to avoid returning home at the end of spring semesters. I earned a masters at NC State University where I studied social work with a concentration in mental health. Like a seagull during winter, I migrated south to Florida looking for sunshine and success. It was here that I fullfilled my clinical licensure requirements. I love online therapy because it allows me to reach a wider range of clientele than I could before. I want everyone who needs it to get the support they deserve.
My counseling style is mostly cognitive behavioral with emphasis on visual thought mapping. I have found that when people see their actual thought process displayed in front of them, it allows for greater objectivity and perspective since it is no longer running on repeat inside the mind. Instead it lands somewhere safe which frees the mind up for other things, giving it more capacity to reason. This can be done online in various ways depending on what works for the client. I am very person-centered in my approach, so to me there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to counseling. However, I have pulled together my favorite techniques from evidence based practices which include mindfulness, trauma-based grounding exercises, the solution-focused approach, rational emotive therapy as well as many other tools I will utilize in a custom treatment plan specific to your goals and personality.
I empower my clients by revealing "tools of the trade" for distress tolerance and emotion regulation. Clients of mine are able to practice these techniques beyond the confines of my therapeutic care. This creates opportunity to become one's own therapist. I believe personal growth is something that can always be further developed. I am simply a facilitator in this process whereby I see you as an expert on yourself. I understand that no one actually embraces change until they are ready to do so. I think of myself as a guide nudging you gently in the direction of health, happiness and self-confidence.

Amy has been such a great support system for me and my family. I had been going through some difficult family dynamics, has helped me cope with stress, anxiety and most importantly how to handle triggers. She is a great listener, genuine, caring and wants to help.
Thanks to Amy’s help, I have been able to face my trauma head on & can finally begin to move forward with my life. She’s very welcoming & easy to talk to. I never feel like she is judging me & I know that she has my best interest at heart. I’m grateful for every session with her, I always walk away feeling really good about myself & proud for showing up for myself. And I have her to thank for that.
Amy has been so helpful to me during a very difficult time of grief. She is knowledgeable, professional, but sympathetic and empathetic creating a trustworthy and comfortable atmosphere for sharing without hesitation. I truly appreciate her.
You’re just a wonder to work with and I’m grateful to have you as someone To talk to and learn from
She is awesome. She has helped validate me with issues that have plagued me for years.
Thank you for you listening to understand. Along this journey I have already became a better person. I have already learned self love and self care. I have already learn that not everything needs a response. Thank you for listening to understand.
Amy is compassionate and very helpful. She is solution based and provides good information on additional resources.
Amy is great - she's skilled in trauma counseling, and I feel like I can always talk to her no matter what problem I'm having.
Amy has been an amazing counselor and offers great insights into situations that I had overlooked. She’s always quick to respond and I’m so happy to have her in my corner.
Really helpful and understanding. Highly reccomend!
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Amy. She was kind and attentive, and made me feel comfortable sharing. For the months that I was in counseling, I was negotiating some difficult relationship challenges, and Amy helped me through these patiently and without judgement. She equipped me with some very practical tools for coping with stress and anxiety, which I still use even after discontinuing counseling.
Amy is the best counsellor ever. She always listens and gives amazing advice and is incredibly generous with spending extra time talking.
I started using BetterHelp and was really sceptical of how helpful it would be. Now I wish I’d started sooner!
Amy has been there for me whenever I needed an unbiased ear to talk to and understand me. She is great at supplying additional articles and quotes and ways of thinking about things. I highly recommend her. She has helped me end toxic cycles and was patient the entire time with me.
Amy is a very understanding individual.
She listens, empathizes, doesn’t judge. She takes away the “fear” of talking to a “professional”. She’s very easy to talk to. She presents me with very helpful techniques and shares useful material.
I have been counseling with Amy for almost a month now and she seems like a very kind and understanding person, she always takes time to listen, to ask questions and to guide me through the session. She sends a lot of additional materials and encourages me to mindfully talk about my feelings and experiences. I am exciting to get better and very grateful to Amy for giving me hope :)
Amy is a professional yet relatable counsellor who's relaxed and accepting nature makes it easy for me to be unapologetically authentic and bravely transparent about what's on my mind and what I would like to overcome.
She's a great listener and is superb evoking a level of self reflection which is both deep and meaningful but that also allows room for you to take responsibility for how to proactively move forward.
I'm grateful for her science and faith based approach which helps me to align my new thought patterns with my core values.
I would recomend Amy to anyone who needed a great counsellor.
Amy has to be the best one I’ve had so far. Amy has been so supportive and not a day goes by where Amy does not check up on me. She has made me feel so much better in myself. I’ve had days where I've hated myself and she makes me love myself more. I’ve never felt more comfortable talking to someone. She deserves everything good that comes her way because she is the reason why I’m starting to feel much better in myself.
Amy is a thoughtful and responsive listener. She always helped me untangle my thoughts and then look at them in a place where I could process my feelings and decide how to take actions that were healthiest for me. I am very grateful for Amy’s help and would recommend her to anyone who needs a knowledgeable and nonjudgmental therapist.
Feel really supported by this councillor and she responds quickly to my messages.
Amy is kind and helpful. She listens with compassion and offers realistic advice. I would strongly recommend working with her.
I've had many in-person counselors in the past. However, Amy is one of the best I've had. It's only been two weeks. However, I feel like I not only have a professional/expert by my side, but also a friend. She's supportive of my requests but also wary of the certain red flags in my life - intuitive and balanced in her guidance. Also, she's very patient with me. It's comforting. I definitely recommend her.
Amy is a wondering person. It feels like she truly cares about how I feel.
I have been skeptical about starting therapy but thanks to Amy I've seen it's necessary and it can help you deal with your feelings. It feels amazing to talk to her and how she addresses and understands what you're going through.
I'd been really stressed out about a family situation and after an hour talking to Amy I felt much better about it. The situation still isn't resolved, but I feel much better about having handled it the right way. Amy is sympathetic but realistic about life. I'm very happy I decided to give BetterHelp a try.
Amy was very insightful in determining my needs and care. She paid careful attention to my participation, looking for clues of any hidden pain or unresolved feelings. Her exercises were appropriate and pulled the feelings from me that were targeted for my grief. I was out of the country for several months when deep depression set in. online counseling with Amy led me from the darkness and on a path to recovery. I was very blessed to have her when I needed her most. I highly recommend her as a counselor. This process works if you participate!
Amy MacHarg is a very good professional. She spends a lot of effort and time in trying to help me and has very useful techniques to conquer the symptoms of my mental illness. I recommend her as an online counselor 100%. Thank you, Amy!
She is well versed on the modern techniques of psychology and I have confidence that she will help me with my relationship problems.
I was not healing on my own. I needed professional guidance to achieve a healthier outlook to life. I'm getting there. Thank you Amy!
