About Me

I am a clinical social worker licensed in the state of Florida and I have seven years of experience working as a counselor with clients having a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, grief/loss, domestic violence, relationship issues and severe persistent mental illness. There is not much I have not had at least some experience with, but when I was starting out I worked mostly with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and other psychotic related disorders. I studied psychology and studio art at UNC- Wilmington. I loved it so much there that I took summer classes to avoid returning home at the end of spring semesters. I finally returned home to attend NC State University where I studied social work with a mental health concentration. Then I moved to Florida in search of clinical opportunity and sunnier beaches. It was here that I completed my clinical hours and finally became a licensed therapist.

My counseling style is mostly cognitive behavioral with emphasis on visual thought mapping. I have found that when people see their actual thought process displayed in front of them, it allows for greater objectivity and perspective since it is no longer running on repeat inside the mind. Instead it lands somewhere safe which frees the mind up for other things, giving it more capacity to reason. This can be done online in various ways depending on what works for the client. I am very person-centered in my approach, so to me there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to counseling. However, I have pulled together my favorite techniques from evidence based practices which include mindfulness, trauma-based grounding exercises, the solution-focused approach, rational emotive therapy as well as many other tools I will utilize in a custom treatment plan specific to your goals and personality.

I empower my clients by revealing "tools of the trade" for distress tolerance and emotion regulation. Clients of mine are able to practice these techniques beyond the confines of my therapeutic care. This creates opportunity to become one's own therapist. I believe personal growth is something that can always be further developed. I am simply a facilitator in this process whereby I see you as an expert on yourself. I understand that no one actually embraces change until they are ready to do so. I think of myself as a guide nudging you gently in the direction of health, happiness and self-confidence.

Amy is a very understanding individual.
She listens, empathizes, doesn’t judge. She takes away the “fear” of talking to a “professional”. She’s very easy to talk to. She presents me with very helpful techniques and shares useful material.

Amy is a professional yet relatable counsellor who's relaxed and accepting nature makes it easy for me to be unapologetically authentic and bravely transparent about what's on my mind and what I would like to overcome.

She's a great listener and is superb evoking a level of self reflection which is both deep and meaningful but that also allows room for you to take responsibility for how to proactively move forward.

I'm grateful for her science and faith based approach which helps me to align my new thought patterns with my core values.

Amy has to be the best one I’ve had so far. Amy has been so supportive and not a day goes by where Amy does not check up on me. She has made me feel so much better in myself. I’ve had days where I've hated myself and she makes me love myself more. I’ve never felt more comfortable talking to someone. She deserves everything good that comes her way because she is the reason why I’m starting to feel much better in myself.

I've had many in-person counselors in the past. However, Amy is one of the best I've had. It's only been two weeks. However, I feel like I not only have a professional/expert by my side, but also a friend. She's supportive of my requests but also wary of the certain red flags in my life - intuitive and balanced in her guidance. Also, she's very patient with me. It's comforting. I definitely recommend her.

I'd been really stressed out about a family situation and after an hour talking to Amy I felt much better about it. Amy was very insightful in determining my needs and care. She paid careful attention to my participation, looking for clues of any hidden pain or unresolved feelings. Her exercises were appropriate and pulled the feelings from me that were targeted for my grief. I was out of the country for several months when deep depression set in. online counseling with Amy led me from the darkness and on a path to recovery. I was very blessed to have her when I needed her most. I highly recommend her as a counselor. This process works if you participate!
