About Me

Hi. My name is Lawrence "Andy" Alaniz and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile. Are you looking you make some positive changes in your life? I'm quite happy to help. My goal as a counselor is twofold: help my clients understand and accept themselves, and to help them grow.

As a counselor I provide a warm and nonjudgmental atmosphere for you to speak freely about yourself and your experiences. I can provide feedback that will give you insight into what is troubling you. Together we can work on changing any problematic behaviors, thoughts, and/or emotions you may be experiencing.

My modality of treatment is primarily person-centered, and solution-focused. I also incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques for replacing negative thoughts and behaviors with more positive approaches for coping.

Seeking help can be scary! But facing a problem you are having difficulty managing, confidentially, with a professional trained in listening, can be a rewarding, life-changing, experience.

My expertise is working with clients who have experienced or witnessed trauma (physical, emotional, loss, sexual, disaster, war, etc). Sometimes after experiencing or witnessing something traumatic, we may be affected in a negative way, called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We may be coping with that experience negatively as well (guilt, hyper-vigilance, anger, substance abuse, etc.). I can help clients to process their trauma, to gain insight, to be less triggered by external or internal stimuli, and to develop more positive coping strategies. In essence, to heal, and to continue growing as a person.

Although my expertise is trauma, I am more than happy to work with clients who are facing other issues such as depression, stress, anxiety, relationships, or self-esteem.

My internship experience comes from working with adults diagnosed with chronic mental illnesses, trauma, and substance abuse in the non-profit and partial hospitalization settings.

Together, we will discuss what is troubling you, where it may be coming from, and your vision for a more positive future and change.

Your acceptance, restoration, and growth matters!

Looking forward to working with you.

Very attentive, responds quickly. I’ve been super busy and haven’t had much interaction, but from what I have had I’m very confident in his ability and expertise.

It has only been a few weeks so far but Andy has already helped me a lot with addressing some of my personal issues that were negatively effecting my marriage. I feel like he is listening to how I feel and providing exercises to help me walk through my emotions a different way than what I had thought of before. I would definitely recommend him as a counselor. BetterHelp in general has been a blessing. I have a very, very busy schedule and couldn't find a counselor in my area that I could fit in a sit down session with. Being able to email late at night or throughout the day while at work and I could come back to what I was saying as much or as little as needed before sending it off. It is a very convenient and modern way to approach therapy.

I love being able to message Andy whenever I need to talk. He responds pretty quickly and always has the positive side to my dilemma! I love that I don't have to make an appointment, drive to an office, and wait around to be seen by a professional. In this day and age, messaging your friends and family is probably more common than a phone call, so it feels almost more personal than sitting in an unfamiliar room/office. I also like that I can access our messages from my computer, phone or tablet no matter where I am. Andy has been great to me, and I look forward to my future!
