First and foremost, applaud yourself for taking your mental health into consideration. This can be a scary thing and unfamiliar territory for some but the world is becoming much more aware of the importance if mental health! Hi, I'm Angela and here is a little about me. I like people and I like to help people and sometimes I'm better at helping others than I am myself, but I'm human! I have my bachelors in Psychology from Argosy University - Chicago and a masters degree in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am currently a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of IL. I have spent my career working with substance abuse, incarcerated individuals, and working in private practice. In my experience, I have encountered trauma, grief, loss, anxiety, depression, stress, crisis situations, self-harm, relationship issues, guilt, shame, addiction, parenting and more. Life is hard and sometimes we need someone to talk to so they can give us an unbiased perspective or talk to someone without any judgment. That is why I do what I do. I know how hard it is to not have someone you feel you can speak to, have someone you can speak to and they don't listen, they listen to respond or use your words against you. It is so important to be able to express yourself in a judgment free zone and get things off of your chest.
I take a CBT approach initially with my clients. I believe that our thoughts lead to our actions and if our thoughts are negative our actions will often be negative in return (or provide negative results). However, we are all so different and there are times when a different approach may work better for you and I will do my best to accommodate that need. Whether its a listening ear, advice giver, goal setter or anything else. I am here to help you work through this thing we call life and enjoy it the best as you can.
