I recently decided to return to my passion for directly supporting others through psychotherapy after working many, many years as a psychiatric and human services administrator. I completed my graduate degree in 1986 and began my clinical career assessing and treating children who were suspected of being sexually abused; I went on to treat adult survivors of abuse and adolescent sex offenders. Since then, my practice has expanded to adults and mature adults experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression - whose work and life are impacted by feelings of sadness, low self-worth, emotional and physical fatigue and anger.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

Ann is attentive and a great listener! She doesn't try to jump in and fix things, or tell me how I should be looking at my situation. She is supportive and looks to helping me find my goals, and then meet them. I highly recommend her!

Ann cured my anxiety! I had anxiety all my life. We talked through things, she pointed out my resilience and in 1 month of sessions, my anxiety was gone! I went from butterflies EVERY day to maybe once every 3 months when ther is actually something going on.
Thank you Ann for listening and pushing me to think.

I could not have been luckier than to have been matched up with Ann. She has been an absolute blessing, knowing what I need through each stage I've been in. I'm glad I've periodically jotted down notes as I've returned often to reread and think through her words of wisdom and counsel. Thank you so much, Ann.

Since working with Ann I have literally done a 180 with my life. I’ve gone from feeling depressed and overwhelmed most days, hardly moving from my sofa, to feeling more confident in my own capabilities and optimistic about my future. She has encouraged me to regularly step out of my comfort zone and I’m now about to start an exciting and challenging new job which I couldn’t have imagined possible 6 months ago! Ann continues to hold a compassionate and non-judgemental ear but is not afraid to call BS on the excuses I use time after time. I am so grateful for my time with Ann and come out of every session feeling both lighter and clearer. Can’t recommend her enough!!

No review will do justice to how Ann Voorhees has helped me find my new different after the sudden death of a parent. We worked through so much more than just my grief, which was my primary concern. Now we work on other issues I have had and I feel stronger and supported. She hears me, she jokes with me, she lends an ear when I rant or sob. She recommends books to read, and sends me materials for when I need "homework". I feel like I am talking to a non-judgmental teacher aunt who has seen it all and would never tell on me. She calls me out on behaviors that aren't healthy, and in a way that works for me. I never want to miss a session, and I look forward to working through our sessions. I cannot recommend her enough, you would be in safe and capable hands with Ann. The only downside, is that she looks like she gives great hugs but you can't get one from her through the internet :(.

Ann is respectful and an artful listener. When I was in my manic episode she was able to calm my mind and bring me back to task. Ann was the correct fit for me as she has a great understanding of bipolar and menopause and of the UK systems. I shall miss my weekly sessions with her as I always felt uplifted after our sessions. I was able to video call, write to her outside of the sessions and do regular journals that I knew she would read and make comment on. We laughed, we cried I got better through her understanding and skills as a counsellor. Thanks Ann.

Ann Voorhees is amazing. I can't begin to describe the change in my mood/life since beginning counseling. She's empathic and kind, and helps me reflect on how I can improve. I'm leaving counseling for now (because she's helped me so much, I feel ok being on my own right now!) but I probably will return one day and it for sure will be with Ann.
