Hello there! My name is April Gilchrist and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor located in New Braunfels, Texas. I have over 10 years experience as a therapist in both outpatient addiction treatment and private practice. I earned my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Louisiana State University-Shreveport in 2009.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, my primary obligation is to respect the integrity and to promote the welfare of my client, whether this is through individual, couples or family therapy. I see therapy as a process in which you, the client, and I, the therapist, having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systemic fashion toward realizing these goals.
My experience includes working with individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, career challenges, mood disorders, substance abuse issues, and family issues including divorce/separation and coparenting. I also have experience working with clients who struggle with stress, loss, abuse/trauma, and the frustrations of life.
My approach is empathetic, goal oriented, and client centered. I utilize techniques from multiple modalities including, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, and The Gottman Method (for couples).
Life can be overwhelming at times. My goal is to teach you practical tools you can apply in all areas of your life. As my client, I will meet you where you are and help you identify goals and healthy solutions to your problems. I look forward to going on this journey with you.

April has been great. She is always warm and welcoming, which is something I need when I'm about to spill my guts. I've really enjoyed the sessions we've had so far, and I'm looking forward to continuing our work.
