About me

As a marriage and family therapist (she/her/hers), I view counseling from a systemic perspective. This means that my focus is not on individuals, but on relationships. The focus of treatment from this perspective is on interactions within systems, such as family and society, even when working with an individual. I believe effective therapy is based on faith that every individual or family has the ability to affect change within their own relationships. While I encourage clients to bring important relationships into therapy, I am qualified to work with clients one-on-one.

I specialize with the LGBTQIA+ communities, particularly with transgender and gender-expansive clients. Other areas of special interest include sex therapy, consensual non-monogamy, self-esteem, women's issues, spiritual exploration, multicultural counseling, and couples counseling. My services are open to anyone, regardless of race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, gender identity or expression, etc.

My past experience includes working with victims of child abuse in a nonprofit setting. During this time, I trained in the use of play therapy with children and families. I also have experience with substance abuse counseling and dual diagnoses.

Immediately Ashley and I had a really great connection. I value the information and incite she provided and feel really comfortable speaking with her about my concerns. I feel she understood my issues and where I was coming from explaining my situation. I am fortunate to have found her as a therapist.

I have not been talking to Ashley McErlean a long time yet, but I have enjoyed our talks and feel I am benefiting from her counseling. She seems very open, intuitive and caring.

She is the only person that I feel comfortable to tell all my thoughts without being judged. And even if you need a lot of help she helps with getting work done in helping it not seem like you are fighting a losing battle. Which can be the thing that is most needed at times.

I have recommended Pride Counseling to many friends and colleagues. It has been the perfect fit for me! Ashley has been supportive and helpful when I have gone through hard things. She also pushes me when I need it. She has saved me in a lot of ways this school year! So thankful for her and this service!

I just started counseling after years of putting it off out of fear. I have to say, it's one of the best decisions I've made. Ashley has been wonderful and I look forward to our future sessions.
