About Me
Hi! My name is Aurora and I am so glad you have made the decision to seek help to improve your life. I know the decision to reach out can be anxiety provoking and I aim to help put your mind at ease. I began my career as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor and quickly fell in love with the work. I began to notice that many of the people I was working with had troubles that went much further than addiction, and I would have to further my education to best serve them. I returned to school and earned my Master's in Social Work. Since that time, I have had the great fortune to continue learning and gain certifications/training in several areas including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Grief Counseling, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and several others. My work experience has included providing substance use education in the community and in jails, providing therapy in correctional, residential and outpatient settings for conditions ranging to substance use disorders to severe persistent mental illness. My approach to therapy is to be compassionate, kind, non-judgmental, and to try to have as much fun as possible while doing very difficult work at times. I like to envision the therapeutic relationship as two people being on a journey together. You are the Captain of the ship, I am the Navigator. You tell me where you want to go and I will plot a course using evidence based practices as maps. I will point out potential storms and provide you with skills to weather those storms if they are unavoidable. The journey towards a life worth living can be arduous, and I would be delighted to join you on that adventure.
