About Me
About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois and I've been practicing for three years. I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drugs Counselor (CADC), and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (CCTS). I have worked in Community Mental Health, outpatient addictions treatment, a sober-living home for women with addiction and mental health issues.
I consider myself to have an eclectic approach to therapy. The one thing I have learned is that each individual is unique and a one-size fits all approach is not effective. The primary therapeutic approaches I use are cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and person-centered. I treat each person as an individual with empathy and respect. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort between a therapist and an individual. I see myself as the guide to an individual being able to have a life worth living.
I have experience working with individuals who have depression, anxiety/stress, trauma/abuse, addictions, self-harm, suicidal ideations. My passion lies in assisting people with finding their true authentic self and improve their self-esteem and self-worth. I love working with the LGBTQ community to help them love themselves for who they are, not what other people want them to be.

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Bernice Jarvis-Anderson. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
One night while having drinks with a friend I mentioned something about considering therapy, and she told me she had heard of better help on a podcast. I looked it up, immediately signed up and answered their questionnaire. To my luck and complete surprise I was paired up with the most perfect therapist I could ever ask for. Not only is she consistently available for me for our weekly appointments, but when I have had crazy times of needs she has always been there to respond for me. I know that when I send something in our chat, that she'll respond to me with 24hrs at the absolute MOST. She calls me out when I need to be called out, even when I don't want to hear it. She listens to me talk in circles - sometimes for 10 minutes and sometimes for 2 hours. She is so supportive and knowledgeable and I cannot imagine what life would have been had I not found her and better help. I recommend everyone I know and when I talk to my closest friends about my therapy sessions and what she says and how they go, they all want to talk to her! I've seriously never been so thankful for her and feel so fortunate that she's my first therapist I found. I firmly believe in things going how they're supposed to in life, and its no wonder she came in to my life when she did. 20/10 would recommend!!
She is my therapist and she is great. She listens to you and provide the time that I needed for that day. My anxiety reduced a way lot and am doing better in my life
Wonderful
Bernice is very logical and helps to reframe your thinking to help you make positive progress. She made time to accommodate me in a crisis.

So far so good. She's been able to get me to look at things from a different perspective. She's very responsive. I'm glad I reached out.
Bernice is very respectful and provides excellent advice!!! She provides different opportunities to talk with her.
Bernice it amazing! She definitely listens and gets the root of what is really being talked about. She also has this kind but tough love approach.
Bernice is wonderful. She has been extremely attentive to my needs, what I want to talk about, and collaborating to find my preferred therapy style from beginning. She is a great balance of validating me and challenging me to think about things differently. Very glad to work with her.
Bernice is one of the best therapists I’ve ever had. She has a fierce dedication towards her work and her clients. First session in, I had a big breakthrough over something I was trying to independently figure out for over a year; she helped me piece everything together in less than 60 minutes. I was also struggling A LOT in trying to find a way to reframe my thoughts in an effective manner, and she helped me build the skills to do it in such a beautiful way by our second session. I have been raving about Bernice’s counseling techniques and interventions to my friends because I’m genuinely so grateful to have found such an amazing provider. I’m personally in the mental health field and I interact with various types of clinicians/providers on a daily basis—it’s very easy for me to tell when someone genuinely loves their job versus someone who sees it as just a source of income. Bernice, luckily for all us who get the opportunity to receive services from her, genuinely loves her job and it shows through every single interaction you have with her.
Bernice is very empathic yet direct, and so far she has really helped me to articulate healing for me.
Bernice is an amazing counseller! After every live session with her, I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders after speaking to her about my issues and challenges that I face. Highly
Recommend!
