Welcome and thank you for visiting my profile! With me as your therapist, you will find that I am open and able to be a guide for you to find your way through life and its challenges. If you feel stuck, lost, aimless, then I would love to work with you.
My name is Betty Wicks and I a licensed clinical psychologist in Texas. I studied in Orange County, California, where not only did I get my doctorate in clinical psychology, but also met my husband and started a family. I have the privilege of being the parent to one autistic child. Therefore, I have personal experience with what Autism is but more importantly, I think I have learned what my role is as a relative of an Autistic person.
Throughout my 7-year career, I have worked with children, teenagers, adults, and families with various life struggles and mental health issues. I have experiencing working with couples as well covering issues like marital difficulties and parenting struggles. I also have experience working with youth and adults who have been abused and are working through trauma. As a psychologist, I also got to work with youth who had learning differences, including Autistic youth.
My core belief as a therapist, is that I serve as a tool for you. I am here as a guide, collaborator, helper, and source of support and care. I believe therapy is about feeling empowered to take control of your life and feel better about who you are and what you are doing.
My counseling style is relational and practical. Our time spent together may mean we take the time to process feelings, that include hurts, disappointments, pain, grief. It also means that through our time together, you can begin to make some concrete changes in your life so that you can discover you and live life based on your heart’s desires.
My training background includes a variety of modalities, which include analytical therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational enhancement therapy, mindfulness, functional family therapy, as well as the use of art and narrative techniques. But, primarily, my approach depends on who you are and what your needs are. We can talk about what you would like and what would be most helpful.
If you are looking for a new start or another chance, then you have done the right thing by considering therapy. I would be happy to connect with you to see if you would like to work together.
