About me

Life is the trip we take as we find our way through the challenges and rewards of being in relationship with ourselves, our family, and the other people who enter our world. At times the trip gets hard, confusing, scary, or frustrating. When that happens to you, invite me to join your trip as a guide, consultant, or therapist. My name is Bonnie Barker. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor in both Georgia and Colorado. I have been honored to share the trip through life with a wide variety of people over the last 20 years of my counseling career.

The foundation of my therapeutic approach is to create a warm, safe, and collaborative environment in order to explore and overcome barriers to living a full and rewarding life. I believe in identifying and utilizing your strengths in the process of facing more challenging emotional and relational struggles.
I build my work upon a client-centered approach, as I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation to therapeutic success. I utilize an integrative approach and incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solutions Focused interventions, and Strengths-based Approach into my clinical work.
I work from the belief that all behavior is purposeful and displayed in an effort to meet certain needs. Utilizing Imago Therapy principles, I will help increase your personal awareness and insight into how your life experiences (childhood, traumas, relationships) have shaped who you are today. This insight unlocks an ability to purposefully change troublesome aspects of your trip through life.

Working together we will identify healthy, adaptive ways to get these needs met. During this process, I focus on building your confidence in your ability to cope with intense emotions, effectively express thoughts and feelings, and embrace your internal strengths.

Some people may find therapy uncomfortable. But, keep in mind that short-term discomfort can lead to long-term benefits. I look forward to being invited to walk with you on your trip through life.
