About Me

Hello! My name is Brandon Roberts and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor. I'm fully licensed in the State of Texas and board certified in general practice through the National Board for Certified Counselors. I hold a Master of Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lamar University. I am a veteran of the United States Army, serving one 15-month tour to Iraq in 2006 and 2007. In addition to maintaining a small private practice, I am also the Deputy Director of a probation department in Texas and I work as a mental health therapist in the county jail on the weekends. My background has given me experience in working with diverse populations and various areas of need, but my passion is working with veterans and first responders.

My approach to counseling is pretty straightforward. First, counseling shouldn't feel like counseling. Clients don't want to feel like they're being prodded and analyzed. In my opinion, good counseling should just feel like a conversation to the counselee. But at the same time, the counselor must be very intentional in guiding that conversation to ensure that everything discussed serves a purpose in leading the counselee to a greater sense of meaning, stability, and peace. Second, I think the client should be recognized as the expert on him or herself. You know you better than I ever will. My degrees and credentials will never compare to your experience of living with you every day of your life. You already possess everything you need to achieve your goals, but I think most of us at one time or another could use a little help finding that strength within ourselves. My job is just to help you tap into those inner resources, to navigate to where you want to be, and to achieve what you want to achieve. Whether you are looking for assistance in overcoming depression or anxiety, building self-esteem, healing from a past trauma, or gaining victory over addiction - or whatever else your goal is, I'd be honored to help you along that journey.

That's pretty much it. For anyone interested in discussing theoretical orientation and empirically-based practices, I'm more than happy to do so. But I think the average client just wants to know what counseling is going to look and feel like, so I've left out the dry stuff. Whether you choose to let me work with you, or whether you choose another therapist, I want you to know that you can do this. Don't give up. You're stronger than you know.

Best wishes always,

He’s an amazing listener and his advice is on point to issues I’m facing. He also has no problem with switching between anger issues and relationship problems. Brandon is very knowledgeable and super kind. He actually changed his schedule but allowed me to stay on and have a special session time since our schedules conflicted. I definitely recommend him he’s definitely helped light the way to getting the weight of my shoulders.

I recently ended my BetterHelp experience as I felt as though I was ready to take the next step in my self-improvement journey. I want to thank Brandon for allowing me to do this. I came into BetterHelp lost and confused, I now leave with a clearer understanding of myself and a positive outlook on both where I am and where I may go from here. Brandon is a genuine and caring person who was willing and determined to help me as he saw fit. I cannot thank him enough.

Excellent counselor. Really worked with me to fit my schedule and time sensitive concerns. He is very professional while relatable too. I’m very grateful for having found this counselor and BetterHelp! As an American living/working abroad full time in a country with limited mental health resources, this format of counseling has been an answer to prayers!
