About me

I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field and love working with people! I earned my B.A. in psychology at Smith College in Massachusetts and my M.A. in counseling psychology at Santa Clara University in Northern California with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy. I have been a licensed marriage and family therapist in California since 2006. I also hold a license as a Professional Clinical Counselor in California and an MFT license in the states of Utah and New Hampshire.

I have worked in a variety of settings including inner-city schools, county and city programs like the homeless team, Social Services, Medi-Cal agencies, foster care, and Victims of Crime. I have also worked in agencies for domestic violence, Christian counseling agencies as well as in private practice. I have worked with teens for many years and also treat adults, couples, and families. My expertise includes anxiety, depression, ADHD, social skills, parenting, women and family issues, grief and loss, anger and stress management, domestic violence, trauma, and abuse.

I use a variety of techniques and like to find what works best for my clients. I use CBT techniques often such as mindfulness, modeling, journaling, thought-stopping, challenging negative thought patterns, activity scheduling, role-playing, and assertiveness training. I also use art therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, talk therapy, and even draw from the psychodynamic approach. I love to find out how my clients can adapt to new ways of learning and I push them to challenge themselves to function better, build better relationships, and find their life purpose.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Brigette Elgie. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Brigette has spent time to get to know me, my struggles, and my past. She takes her time to help me get thru tough times and learn what I can do to better improve my self and to adapt to my constantly changing life. She helps me by reminding me life is tough and I'm going through tough things but I can get through it on top. I love that she will give me Bible verses and suggest other things that can help me. Spiritually, physically, and emotionally/mentally.
Brigette has helped me more in 3-4 weeks then my counselor did in a years time. And hasn't made me feel bad about my decissions or my situations once.

I would definitely recommend her.

Written on Aug 05, 2020 after therapy with Brigette for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, parenting issues, self esteem, anger management, and coping with life changes
