Hello! My name is Britney Umemoto. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (LMFT) with 12 years of experience providing counseling. I have worked with clients dealing with various issues including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, job burnout, ADHD, panic/anxiety attacks, life phase transitions. I have also dedicated most of my career to working with individuals who have experienced trauma (physical, emotional, sexual).
My counseling approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, and solution-focused interventions. I am very strength-based but also straightforward in my counseling style. I do alter my counseling style to suit the needs of those that I work with. I have always felt that people are all unique and cannot be treated as if they were all the same. I have worked with people from all ethnic/cultural backgrounds of all ages and genders.
I enjoy helping my clients achieve the goals they have set for themselves so that they are able to live their best lives. I am simply the navigator in the therapeutic relationship. I feel that my job is to provide my clients with the potential directions that they could take and in the end it is the client who determines the direction that their therapeutic journey will take.
If my approach is one that you feel will suit your needs and you are ready to begin your therapeutic journey, I look forward to the opportunity to help you reach your goals!

I’m an older guy who never really had the courage to go to a counselor's office. This has been an incredible adventure for me- like counseling as a service and it has helped me immensely. I tried this because I really needed someone to talk to but just couldn’t make that call and go into the office. I first looked at this as an intro to counseling, to sort of experience what it would be like without having to make the commitment. I would recommend Betterhelp to anyone.
I could not be happier with my therapist, Britney. She is my very first talk therapy counselor, and I’m so thankful that she was assigned to me. From the very beginning she was welcoming and seem to effortlessly create a safe space for me to share. I hope to work with her for a long time to come.
