One of the things that makes me good at my profession lies in my early personal experience with therapy. In my mid twenties, I entered counseling with major personal and family issues to deal with. As an adult child of an alcoholic father coupled with my history of moving frequently, I had no idea how isolated I was in the way I thought the world worked. After a few years of getting my own house in order, I decided to change professions from broadcast journalism to psychotherapist. I successfully completed a masters program in clinical social work and entered professional practice in 1979. I have been doing it ever since as I have a real love for helping people to improve the quality of their lives. I know therapy works. The proverbial fruit on the tree of my life is a successful marriage of 38 years with strong, positive relationships with my 3 adult children and their spouses. I am also a teacher at my church in positive life development classes. My Christian beliefs strongly inform my beliefs on how to counsel my clients.
My treatment approach is based on strong cognitive therapy models with a proven track record of success. Because I have been practice so long, I have had plenty of time to learn these approaches well. I utilize a combination of one-to -one therapy, group therapy, and family therapy techniques. I recently added on-line counseling and use the doxy.me platform for safe, secure, online counseling work.
