Can a relationship work out even after the other partner has cheated? not physically but through text
Aloha,
I am sorry to hear that that happened and I know that must be very stressful. The short answer to your question is that it is possible for the relationship to be repaired if both parties are open to it and willing to do the work required to get there.
It will be necessary to identify what could rebuild the trust and give the perception of safety again and sometimes that can take a good while to establish, but it is possible.
In the counseling profession, we have a phrase called an attachment injury. That simply means the trust has been compromised.
It will be important to try to discover why your partner did these things so that we can have a chance to understand it and work towards eliminating that behavior repeating. Sometimes this is an impulsive action, and while I cannot say for sure, of course in your situation sometimes there are conditions that make a person behave without thinking of the actions first, and while this does not excuse the behavior, it can help make sense of what happened.
From that point, the person who feels wronged, will need to consider what tangible point would give them a sense of comfort again to allow the trust to reformulate.
This is where items such as identifying love languages can be helpful since this will allow both parties to understand how their partner best receives love, and they can decide if they are capable and willing to offer those types of expressions to give their partner comfort and safety. When trust has been compromised, it can feel like a form of rejection, and it is quite reasonable for a person to feel upset under these conditions, and it is quite natural to have some fluctuating feelings and thoughts that can be disruptive to the daily experience.
it will be important for both people to establish a healthy, relaxation routine if it is not already in place, so that each person has the bandwidth to possibly have the difficult conversations that will allow identification of a path forward toward healing.
