From past 4 months i have being getting severely anxious, and my heart rate becomes so high, why?
I'm glad you reached out. It takes guts to address the kind of anxiety you're describing, but you made a big first step. May I ask if there have been any changes in your life leading up to four months ago?
Sometimes changes we don't even think about can trigger a spike in anxiety. This anxiety is related to a perceived threat that is sometime subconscious. It's a survival instinct that can't be turned on and off, no matter how hard you try to think your way out of it.
The challenge with anxiety is avoidance. We avoid things we don't want to deal with. It's a natural response and nothing to be ashamed of. It happens to everybody. When anxiety reaches the level of panic attacks, it can become paralyzing. I know. I've been there.
The important things to remember when you're experience the onset of panic are as follows:
- Breathe. Deep slow breaths, and count to 5 with each inhale and exhale.
- This will pass. Your body can literally not sustain a state of panic for more than 30 minutes. Most panic attacks last about 12 minutes.
- YOU ARE NOT DYING! This is just your body's way of alerting you that something needs your attention.
- Don't try to uncover or resolve underlying issues while in the middle of a panic attack. Set these aside and come back to them once your adrenaline levels out and you can approach issues with a clear mind.
- Be brave. Panic isn't a sign of weakness. Every panic attack you encounter is an opportunity to hone your coping skills I've listed. It makes you more prepared for the next attack. It's almost like muscle-memory for your brain. If you repeat it enough, it becomes automatic. (You feel panic setting in, and your coping skills kick in without you even making a conscious effort.)
It's a challenge, but I think with some quality help, you can gain some skills to learn how to manage this anxiety monster and live your best life. I'd recommend counseling for you to start. Hopefully you can work together to explore the source of your anxiety in a safe space where you feel free to be open about your emotions.
My main objective is creating a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs. Please let me know if this was helpful, or if there's something I'm missing or if you have additional concerns: The more I know, the better I can help. I wish you the best on your road to recovery!
