How can I control my mind when feeling overwhelmed?
Hi, thanks for reaching out!
I think it is important to keep in mind that everyone can benefit from help at some time or another in their life; sometimes it needs to happen more frequently than others and there are different needs and depths by person, but that doesn't under value or diminish anything that you may be feeling or experiencing. Mental health should be viewed with the same level of importance as physical health; you would go to a doctor if something in your body wasn't feeling right, or go to a dentist if you had a tooth that was bothering you. The same is true in regards to therapy; there is so much of a stigma related to mental health, and sometimes people do fall into the thoughts that they don't really need therapy because their issues don't seem that big. But the truth of the matter is, having someone to help you work through the things you are experiencing, or help you develop some new outlooks or coping skills, or even just to lend a listening ear and help to validate what you are feeling may be exactly what you need. There are plenty of options out there for therapy services; there are in person options as well as virtual platforms such as this one, which really help meet people where they are at and provide the most safe and comfortable option for people to explore.
Sometimes as we go through life we experience different anxiety provoking situations or triggers come into play that we weren't aware of before or that present themselves in a different way. There can be situational circumstances around us that contribute to how we feel and handle things that come at us in life, and we may struggle to respond the way that we think we should sometimes. This is definitely something you could explore and work through with your provider; not only to identify where some of these newer concerns are stemming from but also ways to work through them and to be proactive going forward if you find yourself in situations where thoughts and feelings may cause you difficulty at any point in your life.
Best of luck to you, and feel free to reach out in the future if you need anything further!
