How do I release all this built up anxiety in a healthy matter?

Lately, I’ve been having this built up anxiety and all I can do is cry it out sometimes it’s for days maybe weeks. I feel like it’s not Normal but what do I know. I do overthink a lot even with the littlest things.

Hi Serenity.  Thank you for asking your question here on BetterHelp.  You shared that you have built up anxiety and lately all you do is cry.  Sometimes it's for days and maybe weeks.  You feel like this is not normal, but you do not know what to do.  You also stated you are overthinking a lot, even with the littlest thing.

I want to say that I am sorry to hear that you are feeling this way.  The way you are feeling is not abnormal, however.  One in five Americans will be affected by a mental health issue during their lifetime.  Not everyone reaches out for help or realizes that the way they are feeling isn't the way the have to be feeling.  What I mean by this is, you can feel better than the way you are feeling now Serenity!  There is hope.

I can't make a mental health diagnosis as you aren't my client.  However, I think that you could possibly be dealing with anxiety, depression or a combination of both.  You may also have an adjustment disorder (an emotional or behavioral reaction to a stressful or emotional event in a person's life) with anxiety and depression symptoms.  Think for a minute.  Have you been through any recent changes?  Have you moved?  Have you had any changes in relationships, family, career or school?  These are only a few of the things that could cause an adjustment disorder with depression and anxiety.

That being said, the diagnosis is not as an important as how to treat what you are facing. You obviously don't want to feel the way you are feeling or you wouldn't be here, right? (This is where I picture you saying, 'Right, Kate!' Ha ha.). Working with a therapist on BetterHelp, on another telehealth platform or in person where you are located will allow you to come up with a treatment plan. If you have never been in therapy before, a treatment plan is something you will create in one of your first sessions with your therapist that will talk about your goals for therapy and how you will achieve them. This will be done in conjunction with the therapist. Then, you will begin working on the goals in your treatment plan to start feeling better.

I hope you will give therapy a try and allow a mental health professional to hear what you are facing and assist you.  Best wishes to you!
