I was wondering if I have more than just anxiety
Good Afternoon, I'm sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time. It can feel defeating to pinpoint why things are not going right, and it may seem helpful to make sense of our emotions/behaviors if we can categorize or even diagnose the symptoms. You may very well be experiencing anxiety or more, and it will be difficult to determine this without understanding details surrounding the feelings, emotions, and behaviors you have described.
In order to adequately respond to your question, it would be helpful to gain a greater understanding of where your fears of abandonment are rooted. Fears of abandonment are often times rooted in childhood when our attachment style is developed based on our very first relationships with family members. Fears of abandonment may manifest from other types of relationships as we grow older based on experiences with friends, family, or co-workers. Our attachment style may also be heavily contributed to ongoing trauma or an isolated traumatic event. With all of this said, all humans are made differently, and our physiological traits may also contribute to our fears of abandonment.
Just as I have explained the differing factors that may contribute to fears of abandonment, there is a lot to explore regarding your feelings of anger, sleeping problems, and isolation. It may benefit you greatly to meet with a therapist regularly to explore what has been impacting your well being. Once you learn about the factors that have been triggering anger, feelings of abandonment, sleeping problems, and isolation, you and your therapist may established goals while exploring interventions to reach these goals.
While it may be frustrating to not receive a direct answer for exactly what your diagnosis is, or whether you are experiencing more than anxiety, there is a good chance you will learn these things if you put in the time effort to work with a therapist. Here is an example of why... If you begin having swelling in your toe for no obvious reason (i.e. dropping a heavy object on it), and you called your doctor saying your toe is swelling hoping to receive answers over the phone, it would be difficult for your doctor to provide a diagnosis without further assessment. It may benefit your mental health at this time to begin working with a therapist so you can be happier, engage in healthy relationships with people, sleep better, and have more energy to do the things you enjoy. I wish you the best and encourage you to prioritize your mental health at this time.
Warmly,
Nichole Hawkins, LMFT
