Is it worth starting therapy if you’re not sure where to start?

I have social anxiety and depression. I have tried to start therapy multiple times but I don’t know how to open up and talk about how I feel. I don’t know if therapy will be helpful as I’m unsure where to start and what I would say

Therapy can offer many benefits to people even if they don't have a solidified plan on where they should start with managing the situations and experiences that they are having.  At times it may be good to identify a goal for you to work towards instead of focusing on where to start. So having an end goal or a place to travel to will offer more benefits than worrying about where to start because then you will be able to start working towards something then and there.

Through your work with a therapist you will be able to identify different problems associated with your social anxiety and depression and learn ways in which you can manage the symptoms associated with those effectively.  At times it may be good to explore your past and where the issues stem from to be able to identify different points that you may be stuck with and then find ways in which you are able to process those experiences for yourself.  At other times it may be beneficial to identify the ways in which you are struggling in the here and now and create a plan for how to manage those symptoms at this moment in time before going to the root cause of where the symptoms came from.

In the work that I do as a therapist, I assist people in identifying different belief systems that they have created over their life time based on past experiences and how those belief systems come out in their day to day life.  Our belief systems create different thought processes that influence the emotions that we experience and then in response the behaviors that we exhibit.  There are great ways of managing the thoughts that we experience, the emotions, as well as the behaviors.

Depending on the therapist that you have though, each therapist works differently with their clients and you may have to find a therapist that works best for you and the needs that you have.  Over time though, you should be able to build trust in the therapist that you have if you are consistent with your therapy to be able to tackle the deeper issues that you may experience.
