How can I learn to love myself?

I've become depressed because of the bad choices I've made recently. I don't know how to deal with loneliness or feeling rejected. In return, I accept and/or do things that I'm well aware of are not good for me and eventually only hurt me more. I want to find a healthy, happy, me again.

Good morning Nikki:

I'm sorry that you are having a difficult time right now. Often we are not fully aware how our choices will affect ourselves and others until we are in the middle of it. Often it is feeling depressed that is behind our poor choices but we are not fully aware of our motivitating emotions. As the new year begins it can be an opportunity to open yourself to therapy so that you better understand why you do the things you do. It is an opportunity for self-love and care to give yourself this special time just for you.

Therapy can unlock hidden things about yourself that you were never fully aware. It is a form of self-love and can be the key to feeling happy and healthy again. To start: you could journal some thoughts about what you like about yourself and those that you feel hold you back. Choose one thing to focus on for starters. Start each day affirming that you are happy to be here and what is one thing you could do differently that could bring you a better daily outcome.

Rejection and loneliness can be difficult but it is something we can talk about in ways to improve how you feel. Trying to navigate the world when you are feeling sub-par is very difficult. You are worth the time to talk with a therapist and I hope you give this opportunity a chance. When we are depressed or feeling alone we can continue to make poor choices because we feel there isn't any reason to do anything different.

When you reached out Nikki you already began to believe that there is a way out through talking with a therapist and being honest with yourself. I always tell my clients that we nove at their pace and talk about the issues that are important to them. We can meet by video, phone, chat or messaging. Some clients use several methods until they feel most comfortable sharing their innermost thoughts. We can offer worksheets to explore your thinking in between our sessions. Starting can be the hardest part but you will feel so much better once we develop a  therapeutic relationship. Our relationship as therapist-client will carry you through the most difficult of times.
