How do I stop the feeling of negativity and doom?
Even though you know deep down your life is ok, it doesn't stop you from feeling as though you are under a dark cloud. You want to stop theses thoughts and let the sunshine come through these clouds, but you don't know where to start.
Firstly, I would say, talk to someone you can trust about how you are feeling. The person needs to be a good listener, who shows they understand and treats you with respect whatever you say. If you are keeping these thoughts to yourself, you can end up going round in circles, like a drill and going down into the ground digging a hole and some people don't know how to put it in reverse. Someone else can help you flick the switch on the drill to put it in reverse, so you can start to climb out of the hole.
If you talk to someone in your life, it is a start and can help at first, but they may not have the tools that help you longer term by seeing and talking to a professional person who understands about mental health can give some of the additional tools which can help you out of the hole. It depends on the reason for your unhelpful thoughts and feelings. Which could be a combination of unhelpful/ bad experiences/ negative messages you have had in the past or one bad experience. These experiences can be dealt with to help you live your life you want. What are you like at showing or expressing emotions? Have you always had people tell you not to show emotions and 'just get on with it'? This can be where people struggle to speak to someone, if you have always been told not to show/express how you are feeling, to reveal them to another person can be a barrier in itself. A professional will be aware of you taking your time to voice what you are truly thinking and feeling and give you the time and help you find the words.
I am also wondering if sleep and not eating well is a problem for you too? Sleep is a big factor in mental and physical health. Try to have a regular routine before going to bed, turn off your phone, TV etc. an hour before you go to sleep, maybe have a bath, have a bedtime drink, like chamomile tea, chill with soft relaxing music or listening to relaxation apps/ you tube. Try to eat healthy meals to help fuel your body.
I am aware I haven't given you a 'solution' to your question, as there are so many factors I would need to know, but by asking the question and starting the conversation, it is a start to you getting the support you need at this time. We are all individuals with our own stories and 'one size' doesn't fit all, so from a professional perspective it's about tailoring the help to meet your needs.
I thank you for asking the question and encourage you to seek the help you need to help the clouds move to show the sunshine in your life, as the sunshine is always just behind the clouds.
