It is hard to think about starting over or even changing our current path in life. We may know what we need to do, but approaching the situation could be scary - causing us to steer away from that and continue a life where we may be comfortable, but not necessarily happy.
Working as a nurse and taking care of others all day can be rewarding but at the end of the day, who takes care of you? It is important not to forget ourselves in life - self care is vital when improving our overall quality of life. How do you take care of yourself and reward your work at the end of the day? A warm bath, a blanket and a good movie? We too deserve to be taken care of as we can't be our best selves if we don't.
When you take a step back and look at where you are in life vs. where you want to go, what do you see? What are the differences? Try to think about a career you would want to do that you find fulfilling and enjoyable. What makes you happy?
When work changes from something we once loved to now being a task to be completed daily, that's when we can slip into a depression where we often question ourselves and life overall. What's our purpose?
Feeling depressed & in a negative space while at work can have us feeling like our gas tank is on E at the end of the day, not allowing ourselves the change to do things that we actually enjoy doing.
I think it is important prior to making a decision, to write down all of the possible options and to think about which would make you the happiest. What are some of the pros and cons of each option? What would life look like?
Once you decide, if you would like to pursue that choice then your next steps can be working on a plan towards that goal. What needs to be done? How can you get there? Sometimes it may be a change of scenery that's needed. That could be switching your work environment to your whole career in general.
Change can be scary and induce other negative feelings like stress and anxiety, but with the right support by your side to help and guide you, you can do anything you put your mind to. Don't be afraid to embrace change if the light at the end of the tunnel shows happiness!
