Being a mother can be difficult and can impact both the mother and her relationships because of the amount of adjustment and transition that being a mother requires.  A lot of times once one becomes a mother they tend to lose a part of themselves as a woman and as a partner and have to refigure out who they are now that they are a mother. Their friendships also tend to change and the support that they have can also end up changing based on either wanting to be around the baby or feeling that as the mother you are obligated to spend all of your time with the baby.

To help address what is weighing you down it would be beneficial to sit down, write it out and then talk it out. What about your life is different now? What has changed? What do you miss from before? How can you get some of that back? Are you taking care of yourself and are you utilizing your supports so that they can help you take care of yourself?

I ask these questions because sometimes we think about what we miss but don't realize we can have those things back. We also don't think to lean on our supports because we feel obligated to carry the load or because others make us feel like we have to carry the load.

So, what do you miss doing? What are things you can slowly start doing for yourself again? Have you and your partner talked about transitioning into the role of parents, while maintaining being partners? Because that is so key as well, it is important to not forget before you had the baby you were a couple and now the baby is an addition to that family and an addition to the life you are building but that doesn't mean that you all aren't a couple and you aren't still individuals. So you have to make time to make sure that you are happy so that the baby can not only see that happiness but know that you all are happy too!  You got this, write it out, talk it out, and talk to a therapist to help with support because postpartum is very much real.
