What can I do to start getting rid of depression?

I have become depressed for the past 2 years. I am married and have kids. My marriage is not the best. My husband is not comprehensive and rarely helps around the house. I don’t have the energy to cook, clean, play with my little ones, play with my dog and don’t even like going out. I gained weight after I started college in 2018 and have not been able to lose the weight. People treat me differently because I am fat and that makes me feel worse about myself. I think too much about everything and what people may think about me. I want to go back to myself. I want to enjoy my kids and them to have great memories of me.

Great question,

The symptoms of depression are not easy to manage. Depression is not a simple snap yourself out of it method, but instead takes time, support, multiple steps, some steps may include exercise, positive support systems, but these can feel overwhelming when dealing with depression. It can be difficult to get out of bed must less do more than you have become accustomed to doing to get through the moment.

Identifying the best combination of coping skills is a great place to start. Identifying any triggers for your symptoms is also another great approach. There is no quick response to dealing with depression, but you can work to manage them with support and a plan. Talk therapy, including cognitive behavior therapy (cbt) is a good approach that has been utilized for years to manage the symptoms.

This step here is the first and most important, getting connected and asking for help and support. Sometimes individuals may feel ashamed or embarrassed for seeking help, but this is one of the strongest things you could do, being connected to a professional. Identifying what has not worked and trying a new approach.

While hard to manage, keeping up with things that were previously enjoyable to another tip. This can include things that decrease stress, yoga, time with friends or spending time reading a book that you once enjoyed. Keeping active, which releases endorphins is another step that you can place into your toolbox. There are also supplemental aspects to talk therapy and the different therapeutic approach, these can include group support systems, seeing a psychiatric, routine primary care appointments to rule out other concerns.

Having an approach that can manage your needs from a holistic approach would include the mind, body and spirit. Being sure to address wellbeing through eating well, through moving and mindful exercises or approaches can add a simple but well needed benefit. The practice of mindfulness and cbt to stay in the here and now, while addressing cognitive distortions, negative or unrealistic ways of thinking, which all contribute to the depression growing. Addressing these thoughts would call for challenging your own thoughts, which can be done with practice and support.
