How can I get over losing my son and my relationship?
Hello,
I first want to say that I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been. Losing a child is never easy. It can be hard to understand why these types of things happen to young people who haven't had the chance to live a full life. The grieving process can be long and complicated, so it's understandable that you are still thinking about it. Not only are you dealing with grieving the loss of your son, you're also still processing the end of a relationship soon after, which can really complicate things.
I would suggest looking into starting therapy for yourself. Therapy could be a great outlet for you to talk about and process the trauma of losing your son. A therapist could help you to navigate the grieving process and learn new ways of coping with the emotions that you are feeling.
I would also suggest leaning on your support system (those people in our lives that are shoulders to cry on and our own personal cheerleaders). They are in our lives for a reason, so that we can support each other. I know at times, asking for help from others can be hard, but this is a time in your life that asking for help could be very beneficial. I know, too, that it can be hard to talk with others who may not fully understand what you're experiencing, so maybe looking into support groups for people who have also lost children could be helpful for you. You can lean on and learn from others who know exactly what you're going through.
Lastly, even though your son is gone, he can still live on in you. You can continue to carry him with you in the things that you do. Honor his memory by doing the things you two liked to do together, by visiting his gravesight, hanging up pictures of him, etc.
Again, I'm sorry to hear about the series of events that happened to you. I know it may take some time to heal, but I know you can and will find true happiness again. Don't forget to take care of yourself. Do the things that bring you joy and that bring your life purpose and meaning.
Take care,
Megan Dreyer
