Any suggestions for someone who keeps attempting at her degree but can’t seem to finish 1 course?

I have been trying to get an associates degree. But each time I’m taking classes for some reason I always feel too overwhelmed with life and just drop out.

It sounds like you want to get an associates degree, but once you get started you are too overwhelmed with fitting the tasks into the rest of your schedule and routines. It can certainly feel overwhelming to suddenly have homework, projects, readings, and even group work added to your life.

One way to approach your next attempt at taking a course might be to consider the way you schedule your time and plan your activities. Do you already use a task-list and/or calendar? How do you manage your long-term projects? Some of my expertise lies in the area of academic software and what is called "executive function", which is the area many people struggle with: it's the part of our lives where we have to schedule, plan, and then actually do our to-do list.

It sounds, too, that you may have some anxiety around the new requirements. Getting some help with the way you get and stay organized can help reduce your anxiety: when you feel as if you have things under control, anxiety can be reduced.

Are you finding the course content difficult? If so there are ways to help with that as well. There are some very good academic programs out there to help make reading and writing easier. Examples include what are called text-levelers and audio-book/text readers. These tools can help get you through more difficult content and free up your brain so it can learn the material a bit more easily.

Whether you feel overwhelmed because you need help with organizing and focus, or with difficult content, or perhaps handling anxiety around all of those things, taking some small steps toward each aspect of the course agenda can help you get through one course at a time.

I want to encourage you on your journey, and encourage you to take a look at some online tools that might help you with those academic tasks that may be plaguing you. With a little extra help you may find you can move through the class successfully!
