There comes a time in everyone’s life where we need motivation. Whether that motivation is to complete a college paper, clean the house, exercise or complete a task we don’t want to do. When your motivation is driven by purpose, it becomes more personal, and your outcome tends to be more fulfilling. Therefore your goals will align with your purpose, and your result will be more satisfying.

There are three pillars to motivation. They are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Autonomy is about your freedom to choose. Instead of being told what to do, you have options to choose from, but they all lead to the same result. For example, instead of being told when you have to come to work, you choose your own hours and understand that the work still needs to be done, but you have the freedom to choose your own schedule. Studies show that there is a direct correlation between autonomy and overall well-being.

Mastery comes when we love what we do, and we become good at it. When we are happy with what we are doing, we have a higher success rate of follow-through.

Purpose comes when we find our passion for living. It is important to connect the why to what we are doing. When you understand and believe in the why your motivation overall will increase. Retrieved from: https://facilethings.com/blog/en/pillars-of-motivation

When people have a purpose, it allows us to give something back that is bigger than ourselves. The purpose is always evolving and eventually can lead you to a happier rewarding life. Many people often seek out an end reward for their motivation. For example, if I exercise and eat right, I will lose weight. However, if your motivation is driven by purpose, you may view exercise as a lifestyle change to become healthy and fit, which leads to a better quality of life. When we have a purpose, it allows us to seek out intrinsic motivation, and therefore we are more likely to follow through and sustain our goals long term.
