How to start over after a lifetime of failures and disappointment?

The best way to describe my life is quick sand. The harder I fight for what's right the quicker problems, past hurts and failures swallow my dreams and hopes for a better life and future.

Thank you so much for reaching out.

I am so sorry to hear that you are having trouble and feeling that you can not move forward because of issues from your past.

It can be very difficult to move forward when things from the past are constantly coming forward as thoughts and memories and affecting you in ways that keep you from your future.

Set your goals, both short and long term, and make small steps every day day to work towards them. By making small steps you will be able to see your progress and this will show you a positive path towards the future. When you look at a large goal it can seem overwhelming and as if you will never get there.

Things from the past are just that, in the past. Beating yourself up about them is not productive. There is nothing that can be done about it to change it. By focusing on the past you are preventing yourself from being productive now as well as from making progress towards your future.

The past does not determine the future, but it does teach life lessons. Take what you have learned from those experiences and utilize them to prevent yourself from making the same decisions. We all make bad decisions, the goal is to make better decisions today than we did yesterday.  Moving forward is the only way to show yourself that you are growing from the past into the successful and productive future that is waiting for you.  Even if there are bumps in the way, a bright future is still ahead.

People who live in the past experience depression, people who live in the future experience anxiety, and people who live in the present experience peace. Stay in the present moment. Living in the past keeps you from enjoying the moments that you are in right now with those who are in your life. Enjoy each moment as it comes, be present in your life so that you can live it right now rather than the past, that has already happened. Don't lose the moments you have now.
